I think it's interesting with Proton Mail's mobile app: if you have a spotty connection, you will get push notifications for new messages but they won't actually be available in your inbox. So somehow their push notification service can read the message subject, yet the client hasn't received the message in order to decrypt it? In a E2EE world, how is that possible? Are they decrypting and reading messages server side, and handing the content to presumably Google's push service?

I find it incredible that the Proton Mail android app - from @protonprivacy who want you to detach yourself from big tech - still uses Google Services.
Admittedly just for notification pushes, but still.
How difficult can it be to drop that dependency and check the server for new email at a frequency of the user's choosing?

ProtoMail has an option turned on by default where it won't download images within an email in order to protect your privacy. In case you didn't know, clickable links - especially image files - identifies YOU and everything you do after you
That means the sender knows that *I* went to a specific web page and everything else that *I* did (when I arrived, how long I spent, all of my mouse clicks, my ISP, etc.)
I've attached an example from a #Verizon email.
The subject line is: "Good news, we've expanded our network for Verizon Home Internet!" Which is clearly clickbait.
Verizon emails are filtered into my Spam folder of course. If Verizon (or anyone) can't convey their message in a written form, then they can go pound sand.
(There is always the option within ProtonMail to manually select 'load remote content' from trusted sources)

Anyway, the mail migration also pulled across my Calendar and Contacts. Calendar is going to require some juggling, since we use a shared calendar, but hopefully we can figure it out.
Contacts seem fine.
In total, for 22 (!) years of emails, the migration took about three days.

Jag är numera en Partner av @protonprivacy och kan med handen på hjärtat säga att ända sedan jag gick från Googles Gmail till Proton Mail har mitt liv varit tystare. Proton Mail har nu också lanserat en tjänst så man kan koppla gmail och Proton Mail, eller använda deras Easy Switch för att kunna föra över allt och avsluta Google.
Rekommenderar starkt att överväga byta från Google till en bättre inbox!

Proton responded to my email about Vincent Lapierre.
In its response, Proton told me:
Vincent Lapierre's channel should never have been part of our affiliate and sponsorship program, because we intentionally avoid association with channels whose content could distract from our message and divide our community.
They said their team lacked sufficient knowledge of French politics to evaluate the sponsorship deal, and stated they regretted the sponsorship.
Proton said they are reviewing their vetting process and guidelines.
Lapierre didn't respond to an earlier request for comment. His latest video, published earlier today, is not sponsored by Proton.
In a post on X dated 8 June, Lapierre stated Proton had ended their relationship with him. He called Proton's decision "intimidation", and said he planned to release a video on it.

Proton supports the right to have an opinion, but Proton itself must stay neutral. We defend and protect users across the political spectrum, but sponsorships require neutrality. This shouldn't have passed vetting in the first place irrespective of the public campaigns.

To be clear, the problem is not because you represent the right (we don't take sides), but because for better or for worse, you are a somewhat controversial figure in France who arouses strong opinions from many people, while Proton does not want privacy to become controversial.

There's been some recent discussion regarding a recent video by Vincent Lapierre, a fascist YouTuber which contained a Proton Mail sponsorship segment. I don't have the link but I'll track it down. Proton has said via their Reddit account that it was a mistake and has discontinued the sponsorship. They claim they would do the same with other political content, left or right, as they maintain neutrality.
There's also the long-standing notion that the CEO, Andy Yen, is a supporter of Trump/MAGA/Right-Wing. I've added a link to a fairly lengthy Medium post that refutes that with quite a bit of evidence including a screenshot of the Tweet that led to the idea. I think it's worth reading.
But here's the thing, folks on Mastodon and online generally are generally very quick to agree with assertions without any actual evidence...
