Jetzt hat sie statt einer #fritzbox so eine im Vergleich strohdumme "O2 HomeBox" bekommen. Die hat nicht mal #DNS Einstellungen. Und die bräuchte ich für... 🥁 🥁 🥁 das #pihole, das ich ihr einrichten möchte.
Ich dachte im Übrigen zuerst, ich wäre zu blöd, die DNS Einstellungen zu finden und habe nach "O2 Homebox dns" und "O2 Homebox dns pihole" gesucht. Und die ersten Ratschläge des #internet|s ware sinngemäß "Geht nicht. Kannste knicken".

I can't use the #pihole for DNS unfortunately, because the locked down firmware does not allow to set different DNS for the guest Wi-Fi (used for the IOT stuff). Let's see if the ISP can enable that feature for me.

Je až neuvěřitelné, jak moc se změní poměr blokovaných domén v #pihole, když se síť zbaví telefonů. Žena s iPhone je na několik dní pryč, iPad je vypnutý a já aktuálně mám v síti jen Pixel 10 s Graphene OS a pomocí Canta a Shizuku ořezaný (degoogle) Titan 2. Pak samozřejmě několik PC s Linuxem, ale ty jsou v pohodě, nic netrackují. Poměr blokovaných z průměrných 20% klesl na minimum.

I am looking to use PiHole to block more than ads. I am hoping to find a regularly-updated blocklist of malicious URLs, like the ones that can exfiltrate sensitive information. I came across,

The best way to block ads is to run a Pi-hole or similar as the dns on your LAN.
That way everyone can enjoy ad free browsing and more without being tied into any particular browser.

You see, when I'm forced to use public internet with a non-personal device (whoch is rare enough, but you get me) I get to perceive the internet "as it's meant to be" and I hate EVERYTHING about it. Like: How can *ANYONE* put up with that?!

Particularly problematic are, of course, iot devices. I have them on a separate network and had intended to block liberally but never got around to it. Pi-hole confirms how much they phone home, with Aqara cameras so far being one of the worst offenders. #pihole

Finally got Pi-hole running in front of my network and good lord it’s wild/frustrating to see all the garbage traffic 2026 devices and software send. Will need to tweak over time, but right now over the first 12 hours 17% of traffic being blocked as garbage. #pihole

@netzpolitik_feed Noch nie waren #ublock_origin und #pihole so wichtig. Vor ein paar Jahren nutzte man es aus Komfort, weil #werbung nervte. Mittlerweile sind sie lebenswichtig geworden.

Il faut apparemment définir cette machine comme __unique__ serveur #dns dans les configurations de la box (dixit la documentation).
