Really annoying about #invidious and I am not sure whether I am the only one experiencing this: Invidious instances usually have these anti-bot JS challenges in front of them. Gandalf, or Anubis, or whatever. They work fine the first time I visit a video URL. But if I leave the tab open and the tab is unloaded, for example by me closing the browser, and then reloaded, I pass the anti-bot thing (it says "success"), but then STILL get shown the "forbidden!" page!

There should be a #YouTube video metadata caching service so that alternative, #privacy-preserving services like #Piped, #Invidious, or custom platforms would at least almost always be able to display a thumbnail, a title, and a channel, even when YouTube manages to limited access to up to date information again for mere proxy services. But I assume, this might result in some copyright problems 🤔

This now happens to me a few times a week, almost daily. And it lasts an hour or so. Luckily, I can still use public #invidious instances.

Le mieux, je trouve, c'est d'utiliser newpipe, pipepipe ou tubular, sur smartphone Android (depuis #fdroid ). C'est moins souvent bloqué par Youtube, et ça permet aussi de télécharger avec ou sans vidéo et dans différentes résolutions. Ensuite on peut facilement le rapatrier sur un ordinateur avec #syncthings ou #kdeconnect.

I don't use YouTube any longer. Haven't used it for quite some time now. Instead I have a redirection configured in my browser, that redirects me to an #invidious instance, whenever I access a YouTube URL.

There are a few annoying things though. The most annoying one is, that often the Gandalf, Anubis, Whatever, thingy will fail and tell me "Oh no! Forbidden!", which in itself wouldn't be so bad, if they didn't make the URL so messy. Since it is all JS updated, I also cannot simply go "back".

Jakieś kilka miesięcy temu invidious kompletnie przestał działać, więc (z bólem) przestałem go używać i całkowicie o nim zapomniałem. Cieszę się, że znowu działa! Będę korzystał. 👌

W końcu na dniach pojawi się mój #RedirecTube 2.0! Oprócz otwierania filmów z #YouTube we #FreeTube (od zespołu @FreeTube), a rozszerzenie będzie wspierać też #Invidious (@invidious), #Piped oraz przed chwilą dodane #OpenTubeX. Będzie też pełno zmian wizualnych i wiele fajnych funkcji, nad którymi pracowałem od ponad miesiąca. A wszystko to dla #Firefox, #Chrome i ich forków!

I simply take the video ID from youtube link and add to the invidious address instead:

i.e

IN THIS CASE Richards link to video ID is: 2BsQZT_DzKk

So I replace the video id in any invidious link.

The end result is loading #invidious which is easy when links are saved in your browser if you start typing "inv" or "nad" to use some previous links.

2/ youtube.com google has all the #tracking and #harvesting - so it's good to filter it out with invidious links first / main method of defence.
