Tracking family Navidrome streams without account-hopping 🎵
Navidrome is great for streaming self-hosted FLACs, but checking what my kids are listening to meant constantly logging in and out of different accounts and since playback history lives entirely in client apps, past history vanishes into the void.
Instead of fighting third-party scrobblers or writing complicated webhooks, I just pointed a tiny Python script straight at the local SQLite DB. Now, a regular cron job drops a clean, zero-tracker static HTML dashboard into an Nginx container. No cloud services, no telemetry, just a local page to see family play counts.

@abraham yeah #navidrome and the #subsonic API aren't great for that.
In theory you can use the header based authentication and hide navidrome behind your authenticating proxy (like #authelia) but then you have to make a few API endpoints can pass through the authenticating proxy untouched, so you can use API keys for your non-web based clients.
But aside from navidrome, a lot of other self-hosted classics support OIDC which is _so nice!_

Někteří z nás měli #Walkman, další si pořídili #Diskman, občas někdo měl i MiniDisk Walkman. Později všichni nosili malý #MP3 přehrávač, 192kbps prý stačilo a každý nějak budoval svou hudební sbírku. 💿
Dnes světu vládne #Spotify a další streamovací služby (o jejich odměnách interpretům raději nemluvme). Z blízkého okolí neznám aktuálně nikoho, kdo byl dál aktivně budoval svoji hudební sbírku (možná jeden/dva fajnšmekři si občas koupí nějaké LP). 🎧
Přitom dnes máme otevřený bezztrátový formát #FLAC (nebo stačí jen 192kbps #OPUS? 🧐), ve kterém se dá hudba koupit. Nechybí ani možnost provozovat vlastní streamovací aplikace typu #Navidrome a maličké přehrávače #DAP jako je například Shanling M0 Pura.
Avšak zdá se, že lidská pohodlnost (a možná i cena) opět zvítězila a vlastní hudební sbírka zůstane již jen okrajovou záležitostí. Ano, #nostalgie asi dělá hodně, ale zajímalo by mě, jak to vnímáte vy?

Think it might be the first music player I've used on linux that I 'just like' out of the box and looks like there is a lot of toys to play with.

Wer es nicht mitbekommen hat, #Bandcamp hat die #Subsonic API implementiert. Ihr könnt also jetzt mit etlichen verfügbaren Audioplayern, die das Subsonic Protokoll verstehen, direkt auf eure Musikbibliothek bei Bandcamp zugreifen (z.B. #Feishin, #Psysonic, #Symfonium usw.).
Noch besser und unabhängiger ist natürlich das Selberhosten der eigenen Musikbibliothek z.B. per #Navidrome

#Navidrome, #Immich, #Grimmory, and probably a Matrix server soon - my pallet of self-hosted services is growing.
I should probably do a blog series soon.
The base layer of the whole setup is a #PiHole so that I can do split DNS for each service - and it works fantastic.

Probably more annoying than I care to admit, but I had intermittent connectivity to my music server this morning.
OpenSubsonic client -> mobile internet -> VPS -> home server -> Navidrome container
And I strongly suspect my mobile internet connection, as this has happened to me before with other cloud services.
Nevertheless, it probably does make sense to switch out the VPS with a #BunnyNet container to take advantage of their CDN.

Excitingly (for me) I now have a 1tb hard drive dedicated solely to my Navidrome library. It was only using 150gb of my existing 1tb internal drive, but that's storage that's being shared with Jellyfin and Immich, so everything I add to it gives me storage anxiety.
I'll probably still fanny about converting FLAC > 320kbps M4A to conserve space, because some habits are hard to break and storage anxiety is difficult to shake - particularly in this economy. But given that I've been using Navidrome for around 8 months and I've only added 20gb to my existing library, it's gonna take me a while to need more than 1tb.

Pruned the hell out of my local music library today. Finally tagged, sorted, or deleted all the tracks from a friend who used to dump the worst tagged tracks in existence on me. Some of this shit is almost 30 years old.
Navidrome looks clean now. Will look cleaner after all my tagging scripts are done too.

Since I moved my primary music listening to my Navidrome server I have been getting a kick out of my old collection while I backfill everything from the past 15 years or so from Soulseek.
