  2. What's going on with #UbunteCoreDesktop? I think it would be awesome to have an all containerized desktop... Drivers on bleeding edge, desktop on stable, all keeping up to date on their own. Or setting it up for someone not tech-savvy but, leaving them with a machine that will keep up to date and secure all on its own.

  3. Ubuntu Adds Official Support for NVIDIA Jetson AI Modules

    Canonical has announced that it now ‘officially supports’ Ubuntu on NVIDIA Jetson, a series of computing modules designed for AI and machine learning applications. The General Availability (GA) of Ubuntu 22.04 LTS for the NVIDIA Jetson Orin brings “optimized performance, out-of-the-box compatibility, and an easy pathway to high-performance AI solutions for AI developers everywhere“, say Canonical. Offering Ubuntu certified images for cutting-edge hardware is something Canonical has been ramping up, and doing so for NVIDIA Jetson modules should provide a lure to developers wanting to leverage them for edge AI, robotics and other uses. 4. To enter Initrd shell on a Core 18 device pass those options to the kernel:

    panic= break=top console=ttyS0

  5. Circling back as I finally got time. 😅 can work on , but you have to get creative. 🫠

    You *must* have docker on the instance logged in to the container registry before start. Maybe prehook could work? Next, you need to link `.kamal/app/` to writable path by docker snap. 😅

    Once done, you good to go.

  6. I'm right now wondering if anyone tried to do with ... Asking for a friend. 😉

    I'm going to mess about on and see if I can get something with this. I been narrowing down so much how much systems run now. I'm clearly at the "less is good" phase of life. 😅

  8. Ubuntu Core might be what really makes Linux mainstream. Immutable distro, easier for corporations to manage, secure with full app isolation and easy for non tech people to use.

  10. 🤮 Ugh :ubuntu: requires an Ubuntu One account during initial boot step 'for access to the store', what the heck?

    UPDATE: And when you make one and enter it, it errors out at 'no ssh keys found' 😂 What. the. actual. heck. 😂

  13. TIL Ubuntu Core doesn't have man-db installed by default, but leaves behind a placeholder `man` command telling you to install the `man-db` package, but `man-db` doesn't actually install the actual `man` command...

  14. Old account Jun 1, 2023:

    The title is misleading, but this is a good rundown of immutable desktops as a concept and why they are good for certain use cases. Deb-based will remain the choice for tinkerers, but it could be great for people or businesses who just want their desktop(s) to work -- or want most things stable and contain the apps that use a bleeding-edge stack (e.g. the Steam snap).

  15. @mesebrec @popey @mathieucomandon Permission for just uploading/publishing in the Store is only needed for Snaps with classic confinement.

    And AFAIK classically confined #Snap cannot be installed on all-Snap distros as #UbuntuCore or #ubuntuCoreDesktop.

  16. #Canonical reveals more details about #UbuntuCoreDesktop
    This new entrant in the #immutable space is not a replacement for ordinary #Ubuntu
    Updates are monolithic: a whole fresh image is pushed out, and all the OS components are upgraded in a single operation. Canonical believes it has some unique new angles. #CoreDesktop is constructed as additional layers on top of the existing #UbuntuCore, and like Core, it's entirely built with a single packaging system: Ubuntu's Snap
