Seit einem Brand Mitte Mai 2025 pendeln die 1.200 Schüler eines Schulkomplexes (Gymnasium umd Realschule) aus #Erkrath in die Nachbarstadt #Düsseldorf, Stadtteil Benrath. Das geht nun zuende.

Die Düsseldorfer Ausweichschule mußte länger genutzt werden, als ursprünglich geplant. Der Zeitaufwand jeden Tag hat genervt.

Zum Schuljahreswechsel geht es zurück nach Erkrath in einen großen #Container-Komplex, der baurechtlich wohl noch nicht genehmigt ist. Wenn das kein Fortschritt ist !

Grund für die Pendelei war der Brand der #PVAnlage auf einem Schuldach.

As another step to reduce my interaction with tech-oligarchy, I am migrating my personal website from #Microslop #Github to a smolass VPS.

But because I simply can't do one thing at a time and just get to desired results in a straight path like a normal person, I am doing this with as much Guix as I possibly can; so far with a #Guix built #container that runs on non-guixos VPS (cool right?)

One of my fears of homelabbing is the reliance on (3rd party) #Docker/#container images that could just be gone someday. I've already had it happen once, with #Bitnami images (fuck #Broadcom).

One way I previously thought to combat this is to manually pull the image bundle and host it in your own container registry. This works, but obviously not a reasonable effort to do and reproduce for more than ~1-2 images.

Then, the moment I discovered #Amazon/#AWS has such a thing that addresses this - pull through cache for their #ECR, I looked up on how I can have the same kind of setup on my #homelab, and sure enough, there are already several options. I went with #Zot, and it's working pretty freaking well. Now, anytime I pull any images from registries I've configured Zot to sync like #GitHub's ghcr.io, docker.io, public.ecr.aws, they'll all be pulled/cached first on my own Zot instance and stored for good there.

Man, I wish I looked into this much earlier - but better late than never.

Can a cookie tin be a work of decorative art? Yes.

When the UK's Licensed Grocer's Act of 1861 first allowed the sale of individually packaged groceries, decorative cookie tins ("biscuit tins" in the UK) got their start. These simple metal boxes were soon embossed with 3D detail, and decorated with colourful lithographic prints.

They sold as Christmas gifts for children. (UK grocer Marks & Spencer continues the tradition.) Later tins appealed to adults, and decorated middle-class homes across Britain's empire.

By 1890, the mass-produced tins mimicked other objects in shape—first baskets, then collectable art like Chinese vases.

The 1912 "Bell" biscuit tin below has a faux copper finish. It's in the Victoria and Albert Museum's collection, and was made for Reading, UK, biscuit makers Huntley & Palmers. See the image description (ALT text) for details.

Today's biscuit tins are sometimes sold in UK fundraisers.
