The mobile settings app now supports OS updates for immutable images that use systemd-sysupdate. There's also a now a notification that tells the user about available updates provided by a new small service:

Phosh now support's hiding and disabling applications. This is useful on immutable systems where software from the base images can't be uninstalled:

Those of us on #atomic distros - how do you install bash tools like #nmap, #telnet etc that arent in the base image?
I have been building my own sysext, which, is a lot of work and needs to be manually updated from time to time, but I had someone suggest the #brew repos as an alternative.
I previously aliased #distrobox commands
I try not to layer on my ostree, as it slows down updating so badly.

Привет, Друзья! Хотел написать короткий пост по мотивам одного казалось бы простого ПР-а, который мы недавно получили в рамках Axelix: Open Core продукта для решения основных известных болей при разработке Spring Boot приложений (кстати, give us a star!). В общем, контрибьютор пришёл к нам и исправил с виду совершенно безобидную проблему, которую мы упустили. Но на деле, эта проблема со временем могла привести к другим багам, которые дебажить было бы крайне тяжело. И я посчитал, что это стоит небольшой статьи, потому что сам помню проблемы в Spring Data, которые возникали из-за подобных просчётов. Я не буду погружать вас в детали того, что мы делали, просто покажу на абстрактном примере. Давайте с места в карьер. Посмотрите на этот код:

Can someone tell me why #bootc is a replacement for #ostree? It seems like a solid downgrade.
Ostree has better download semantics, while bootc literally... clones container layers. Ostree lets you create temporary and permanent overlays. Bootc asks you to "maintain" your own container image. The temporary overlay solution is to use sysexts overlays, which is far more restrictive.
There are many other points that I'm forgetting right now.
So why is ostree being sunset in favour of bootc again?

I think this recent article does a pretty good job clarifying the differences between Immutable and Atomic Linux distros. Then explains why you may or may not want to try one out for yourself. Or a combination thereof.
I'm sure that there are plenty of other sources out there too.
