[ Blog ] Veeam ISO Hardened Repository: manual #backup deletion
If your Hardened Repository is getting out of space, you may need to quickly delete backups from the Veeam ISO Hardened Repository to avoid backup failures.
To perform backup deletion we must boot the server in Live System mode using the Veeam ISO file.

Fascinating idea, though I can’t help but think it would just become some sort of attack vector of its own.
Also given the push towards immutable distros (which is a good and cool idea) I’d be very curious how this could actually be implemented.

Immutable linux is my second favorite operating system after FreeBSD. My secondary laptop is installed with Fedora Kinoite because I use this laptop only for lecturing. FreeBSD in my first laptop is the only one that handle hardcore and radical programming. #freebsd #immutable #linux #fedora #kinoite

I think this recent article does a pretty good job clarifying the differences between Immutable and Atomic Linux distros. Then explains why you may or may not want to try one out for yourself. Or a combination thereof.
I'm sure that there are plenty of other sources out there too.

Curious about immutable Linux. Going to give Bluefin a go on my mini pc:
-
well, I'm still not convinced that #homebrew is a suitable package manager for #immutable #linux distros
-
Bazzite is really awesome. Even as a daily driver.
I'm testing it out and really grooving to it. An immutable OS is very compelling for certain use cases. Bazzar manages Flatpaks quite nicely. I've been running GNOME, but am going to try out KDE next.

Dear ostree users out there (on Fedora, RHEL, Bluefin, Aurora, Bazzite, ...),
has anyone of you ever seen an error regarding "invalid gzip headers" during a "rpm-ostree upgrade"?
[...]
[2/98] Fetching ostree chunk 53a115d85164231992f (46,2 MB)... done
error: Importing: Unencapsulating base: Layer sha256:53a115d85164231992fb38d82f836a36e9be489b15cfa415559419d164a7b6c0: Importing objects: invalid gzip headerI am building my own images to have the /nix directory available. Worked like a charm but suddenly stopped working for my Fedora43 image due to this error. The Aurora-with-nix image is fine, though.
Funnily enough, as my image only adds the nix directory, I only have one "custom" layer, everything else is from the upstream image. So I am puzzled on why this fails, why it fails for me and not for anybody/everybody else and why I do not find any issues related to "invalid gzip header" errors...

Immutable Linux distros are great until you need to add something to /usr. Here's the fix. 🛠️

I found 2 external projects:
- Vanilla OS looks like a project targeted to end users, with Enterprise/Commercial support
- Nitrux, but I'm not completely sure is based on Debian because it seems to go its own way. Looks like it's more experimental and targeted to power users -

This article is quite interesting and I'm interested about the idea of #immutable #Linux, at least for end users. I found nothing official on the #debian wiki.
On Debian, I don't remember having often experienced myself upgrade problems, with more than 25 years using it. Not on stable at least. (because ofc I run #testing :)
I don't know much about Fedora but I had the idea that it was not *that* stable because of its bleeding-edge nature. -
