Das EN am Ende eines Menüeintrags bedeutet übrigens, dass dieses Live-System ungefragt auf englisch startet – auch mit englischer Tastaturbelegung, was unsere Gäste immer wieder verwirrt.

Besonders verwirrend ist das aktuelle Live-Image von #Lubuntu, das zwar nach der gewünschten Sprache fragt, dann aber trotzdem immer eine englische Tastaturbelegung verwendet. Deswegen fiel diese Distri bei uns weg. /c

@Lazarou It really annoyed me too until I switched to #Lubuntu and #Brave. I’m going to use the energy I’ve saved up so I don’t get frustrated over other things.

@ct_Magazin es ist doch wie mit allem. Welcher Mensch braucht auch allen Ernstes alle zwei Jahre ein neues Handy, nur weil der Vertrag abläuft? Vor einigen Jahren konnte man gebrauchte Rechner kaum nutzen, aber die aktuelleren Geräte sind auch nach einiger Zeit im Einsatz noch zweite Hand prima zu gebrauchen. #windows ? Was ist das? 😅

Interesting. Just installed #vivaldi browser on my #lubuntu Microsoft Surface Pro (the very first model). Set Vivaldi to block trackers but not ads. Opened the stuff.co.nz web site in a new tab, read one article and closed the tab. 131 trackers blocked. 131!!! on one site. #privacy

Reactivated one of my oldest computers (2 GB RAM, #Windows XP and #Ubuntu 20.04) by installing #Lubuntu and it's working fine again! #Linux

@minmette Jo jeg en del erfaring og har brugt open source de sidste 26 år og Ubuntu siden 2006.

Jeg hæftede mig ved at du skrev gamle bærbar og der kan du med fordel bruge Lubuntu som kræver langt mindre motorkraft end fx Ubuntu gør.

Hvis du synes Ubuntu køre dårligt eller langsomt, fordi din computer er gammel, så kan det være Lubuntu løser det problem og ellers er der andre alternativer.

Il existe des distributions éducatives (comme #PrimTux ou #Edubuntu) mais #Lubuntu sera plus polyvalent et tu peux aussi directement installer des logiciels éducatifs comme #Gcompris...

This is kind of strange bc there are so many #ubuntu. I use the standard desktop on my desktop replacement class laptop, but #lubuntu or Ubuntu Server on my fleet of mini PCs. And other #linux on #arm. It is not that the distribution question isn't relevant, it is just that even within the Ubuntu universe there are so many distros.

Bin jetzt versuchsweise auf den #Vivaldi Browser umgestiegen und bin bisher sehr zufrieden. Läuft runder als der #Firefox auf meiner alten Laptophardware mit #Lubuntu #Linux (Lenovo, aber mit neuer SSD und auf 16 GB RAM erweitert). Bei dieser Gelegenheit habe ich auch nur mal die Lesezeichen angelegt, die ich tatsächlich noch privat nutze. Wird dadurch schon mal alles viel übersichtlicher. Die Tabs-Position (frei wählbar) unten im Fenster fühlt sich auch gut an. Vivaldi-Konto lege ich noch an.

The other day, I booted up a #Ubuntu #2510 just to see how things are on the #Gnome #desktop. That #DestopEnvironment is not for me. #Kubuntu #2510 looked great and felt great, made me excited for #2604 #LTS. We are so lucky to have so much choice for pretty much everything. I think it is about time to fire up #virtualbox and take other flavours and #distros for a spin. It has been years since I have used #Xubuntu and longer for #Lubuntu. #OpenSource is just the best 😀

Etwas nervig, in letzter Zeit stürzt mir der #Firefox unter #Lubuntu Linux so ab, dass gar nichts mehr geht und nur noch der Ausschalter bleibt. Habe noch keine Lösung gefunden. Ist ein altes Laptop, läuft aber ansonsten gut und akzeptabel flott für meine Zwecke, da ich eine neue SSD und 16 GB Arbeitsspeicher in das alte Lenovo eingebaut habe. #Browser #Linux

i've upgraded from lubuntu 22.04 LTS to lubuntu 24.04 LTS. so shiny!

Today I discovered that there is also an excellent compression format, #Zstandard (ZSTD), is fast with an excellent compression ratio, developed by #Meta, and released as #opensource
I needed to backup my files because I have to wipe my PC and reinstall #Linux. Now I have a dilemma: choosing between #antiX and #Lubuntu. I have a fairly decent computer, so I could even install a more full-featured OS, but I prefer an OS that doesn’t use too many resources.

Und wieder ein Rechner gerettet, den meiner Mutter. AMD #Athlon 64 X2 (2007) mit MS Vista (!) läuft nun stabil und recht flott mit #LXLE 32bit- Edition für mindestens noch 3 bis 4 Jahre als Surf- und Büromaschine. LXLE basiert auf #Lubuntu und das wiederum auf #Ubuntu (und das wiederum auf #Debian), stellt aber eine 32bit- Edition bereit.
Lässt sich auch optisch an die Bedürfnisse einer Ex- Vista- Userin anpassen 😜👍

@[email protected] @[email protected] ja, die habe ich auch beide installiert. Auf meinem Hauptgerät zusätzlich und gerade für ältere/schwächere Geräte sind das super Alternativen, die super schnell und sparsam sind und für viele Anwendungsfälle aber ausreichen.
Das #Gnumeric und #Abiword aber auch zusammenhängen und als "Office-Suite" bezeichnet werden, war mir aber nicht klar. Aber ist es nicht eher von #Lubuntu bzw. #LXDE statt von #Gnome ?

So, #Linux users of #Mastodon, what is your recommendation for a #distro for a techy person who used to use Linux ( #MEPIS was my favorite flavor back when I was using #Nix regularly, but I did run #Mint, #Ubuntu (12.04 or 12.10 was the last version I ran exclusively as the main OS on one of my PCs...which, was, 11ish years ago? Rude), #Xubuntu, #Lubuntu, #Kubuntu (getting the picture?), #PuppyLinux, #ArchLinux, #Slackware (is that still a thing?), #KaliLinux (Started using it when it was #BackTrack, though), #FreeBSD, #FedoraLinux (12 or 13?), #RedHat (#RHEL) etc.

You get the picture...I used mostly #Canonical / #Debian based OSes, but had a sprinkling of #RPM based, and others. I did some small modifications to the #Kernel and such, Almost got MEPIS running on an old #IBM #ThinkPad, and was able to salvage a lot of data from "dead," machines thanks to 'Nix.

These days, however, I just want one that works. I have way too much going on to mod and have to mess with it constantly to keep it working.

@scianvalscian ho Fedora su MacBook Air, funziona perfettamente e riconosce tutto alla perfezione. Mi trovo così bene con :fedora: Fedora 35 che lo ritengo per molti versi superiore e più piacevole rispetto a #macOS di cui non ne sento la mancanza. Quindi la mia scelta è stata di non complicarmi la vita inutilmente e non fare #dualboot. Risparmi spazio e allunghi la vita al drive SSD.
Prima avevo provato :lubuntu: #lubuntu ed è stato uno shock, #Fedora35 è molto più simile a :mac: macOS

@linux @YodelSinatra stranissimo, ho istallato :lubuntu: lubuntu su 3 macchine finora e questo problema non l'ho mai incontrato.
Un'altra distribuzione molto leggera è :mxlinux: #MXLinux oppure :raspberrypi: #RaspberryOS Desktop entrambe leggerissime al pari di :lubuntu: #lubuntu
