I thought I'd get a #LinuxMint polo shirt. At $39, it seemed expensive, but not totally unreasonable. Shipping at $40, however, nixed the notion. I don't know where HelloTux is based, but they blamed US tariffs on Europe for the shipping cost.

I'm on Linux Mint 22.3. On around December 7, 2025 my desktop environment seemed to have frozen. Ever since then at least once or twice a month I get either one of three things:

-Desktop environment and mouse freeze up and do not recover, requiring a force restart
-System crashes with a green screen, requiring a force restart
-System just randomly restarts on its own

I suspected from the green screen crashes that it was my graphics drivers, so I added these to my kernel parameters: amdgpu.dcdebugmask=0x10 amdgpu.gpu_recovery=1 which seemed to have fix it as I haven't gotten it since, but freezes and reboots still happen. It never happens under circumstances like playing video games or watching YouTube videos. It specifically happens when I'm just browsing the web normally. I'm unsure what is causing it. I checked if there's anything potentially causing overheating and there is not. I also checked journalctl and dmesg but those showed up with nothing. This did not happen under Windows 10 or Linux Mint for the few months until December 7, 2025. I do remember one green screen crash under EndeavourOS in 2024 when I first got this computer, but I haven't seen this problem again until a few months ago.

CPU is Ryzen 9 6900HX with integrated Radeon 680M graphics. Kernel 6.8.0-111-generic #linux #linuxhelp #linuxmint

Update 11

Just tried video chatting on the new Mint laptop for the first time---a professional meeting on Microsoft Teams (not my decision).

Worked like a charm! Linking the bluetooth for audio was a breeze, as was starting the session. There were no hiccoughs, even when I switched to power-saving mode.

Another feather in the cap for Linux Mint!

Side note: What's a good name for a Surface Go laptop with Linux Mint installed? Surface Mint? Go Mint? Mintface?

Allmählich kippt bei mir die Stimmung gegen #linuxmint : Da ich #Windows für 2 Programme benötige, bin ich auf ein DualBoot System angewiesen: Igendetwas (TM) zerschießt mir aber seit Tagen den Bootloader: Trotz unzähliger Reparaturversuche (u.a. Boot Repair) gelingt es mir nicht, #Mint sauber zu starten. Solange es also Software gibt, die nur unter Windows läuft, brauche ich mir über Linux keine Gedanken machen.
Und "Nein":
Es gibt für die beiden Lexware-Programme keine Alternativen.

After the recent update on my Mint Cinnamon, I'm experiencing some trully annoying freezes in all gui apps at random moments across the system. Not really horrible but quite irritating

Por otro lado, una LTS te brinda estabilidad comprobada y también retrotracción. Y si querés novedad, podés instalar repositorios, paquetes DEB, PPA, Flatpak, backports, contenedores y kernel HWE.

My mother is beginning testing a #linuxmint laptop as her daily driver while taking notes about issues. It's been 4 days and I haven't received a call about any issues.

I finally killed the dragon and got windows off the new gaming lappy and got #pop_os installed successfully and relatively smoothly. HAving to access the bios form within Windows via recovery because the BIOS was locked out from boot (F12 failed to work) to turn off Secure UEFI was the biggest fight.

Getting the apps set up so far has been smooth. I need to do a little more with some technical side apps for video capture and editing on there.

I need to check in with my buddy rocking the #cachyOS box used for lighter gaming (stock business desktop graphics from 3 years ago) and internet browsing and see how that's going.

There is good forward progress.

On the 5. May 2026 I switched from Windows 7 to #linuxmint.

Which apps should I install?

I accidentally enabled "High Contrast" mode in the accessibility settings in #Linux Mint and it got rid of that annoying thing in modern UIs where the boundary between different interactable areas of a window header is defined by two homeopathically different greys.

The other effects it had were less appealing to me, but that one was great.

Continuing my "Linux for non-nerds" experiment: As some of you may know, I edit manga. On Arch, Okular is indispensable for my workflow. But Okular is part of KDE and so doesn't come installed on Mint. Challenge: Maintain my workflow on Mint without calling on my previous Linux knowhow.

Opening a manga epub defaulted to Mint's Document Viewer—which wouldn't let me zoom out, despite having clear zoom options in the menu. A websearch turned up nothing.

So I popped open Software and searched for "comics," "epub," and "ebook." After much browsing, I found Foliate, which zooms (inconsistently). But it doesn't handle R>L pages, which really hampers me.

As I must get actual work done, I'll continue this later.

I can load up any other gaming Linux. This won’t run. I picked the appropriate hardware config. And it won’t run. Two different usb sticks, it won’t even be read. #ubuntu #linuxmint #pop_os #NobaraLinux just work. But not Bazzite. Not on a recycled computer. Not on a brand new gaming laptop.

Linux Mint datahoarding/backup tip: "apt download" fetches the .deb files of both the package and its dependencies

E.g.:

• apt download vlc
• apt download dolphin

Only problems are it requires sudo, it only works with one package at a time (so apt download vlc dolphin won't work), and the script that comes with it for easy installation runs apt (but replacing apt for dpkg -i solves that).

There's also apt-get download, which doesn't require sudo nor comes with a .sh file expecting apt, but it won't download dependencies either.

heute für meinen Vater ein Acer Aspire 1 mit einem LinuxMint installiert.

Ich habe ihm KDE Plasma installiert. Dabei ist mir aufgefallen, dass die Angebotenen Meta Pakete von KDE nicht gut zusammengestellt sind.

Sogar bei kde-full - fehlte so einiges, dass man nachinstallieren musste.
