Android desktop mode beta, or Chromebook in your pocket
I enrolled on the Android Beta and am typing this on my phone plugged into a USB-C dongle that provides HDMI and USB.

The idea is it's supposed to turn your phone into a portable "real" computer.

This PC World article hits close to home. I've got a Lenovo Duet 11 detachable 2-in-1 #Chromebook. I love it for its small form factor and decent performance (including the built-in Linux environment), but OMG, it's a pain to use on my lap, as the article aptly points out. And I rarely use it as a tablet - I always go back to my M8 for that!

I find my Gen 9 Duet to be adequately fast when using its Linux environment for software development. My primary tool is VS Code (with various extensions), and it works surprisingly well.

the linux version of chrome is essentialy private space for chromeOS, because its essentially a version of the chrome browser that's *not* tied to the operating system itself.

this was not the case with lacros, which, while allowing multiple chrome profiles, was still tied to the os.

and that is why, i think, google should legitimately make and maybe market something more like *that* as a "thing".

it's better than lacros.

the linux version of chrome should be available on the google play store for chromebook.

to be used alongside / separate from the built in version of chrome

this would be a hearty substitute for lacros

it'd be better than lacros

lacros allowed multiple browser profiles

but the profiles were integrated into the operating system

the linux version of chrome on chromeos is not integrated into the OS which is a good thing.

draft - lacros makes chromebook more like a windows type computer (in a good way) by allowing browser profiles inside one user space. multiple users is important too, but the ability to have browser profiles in one user space is also very important. why would google allow browser profiles on a competing operating system by microsoft and not allow it on their own operating system?

something here feels like it's microsoft telling google what they can and can't do. it feels like a microsoft thing here.

something like microsoft saying to google "you can't do lacros because we don't want chromebooks eating into windows laptop sales and lacros is too "good" for chromebook. or something like that.

"This is terrible. The LaCros setting via Chrome flags allows the Chromebook version of Chrome to function like the regular desktop browser like those on Mac and Windows. Why kill this? In fact ChromeOS and Chromebooks need to become more like Windows or Mac to retain power users. a) My Chromebook has become a tad erratic in responsiveness.

b) Reads Robby Payne (Chrome Unboxed) on issues with the new Lacros browser transition including:

"If you consider all the ways that Chromebooks rely on the Chrome browser, you quickly gather how important this transition will be when it happens. Decided to go with the #Penoval USI 2.0 stylus with my #LenovoDuet 3.

The pen itself feels really nice - slightly more slender than my Lenovo Pen. Love that it recharges off USB-C.

The pencil tip is also really nice.

It doesn't fit in the stylus holder, unfortunately, but it DOES magnet nicely to the crease in the back of the case.

Writes really smoothly. Haven't had it long enough to test battery life.
