When #parents won't #MaskUp - they teach their #children to not be safe with their #health too. They also teach their kids to not care about others in the community. I'm blown away by how many parents are OK with exposing themselves & their kids to several preventable, airborne illnesses, including covid. They're risking death & disabilities on themselves & their kids.
Our #PublicHealth system is already overburdened & understaffed. We have many former health care workers with long covid & they never returned to work. We are nowhere near prepared to deal with many future cases of long covid & the 2ndary illnesses & disabilities that more people will suffer from - because they aren't being #CovidSafe.
Our government & mainstream media has stopped reporting facts on covid & on long covid. They want the public to forget about it. Which means dismissing the lives of disabled people like me & many others, who are still being covid safe.

The Discourse published an article by reporter Rowan Flood covering the ongoing battle between outdoor recreation groups and Mosaic Forest Management. Mosaic manages huge swaths of land on #VancouverIsland and tightly controls access to what one outdoor enthusiast called the most impressive and “jaw-dropping” parts of the Island. We had Transport Canada verify that this helicopter maneuver & 3 other ones documented at other resistance camp areas was illegal & violated federal regulations but no action was taken to punish people responsible for violations.
This footage was taken before over 100 RCMP CIRG goons raided 4 different #ResistanceCamps.
Voluntary RCMP #CIRG unit was created in 2017 as a strictly corporate mercenaries unit in BC. Approved by #BCNDP government. The same government who has given them multiple budget increases - millions of #BCtaxpayers monies were used for that. The #BCNDP #BCgovernment has said no to a proposal to create a #ProtectedArea for an area of #OldGrowth #cedars near #DuncanLake.
"At this time, #BCParks is not considering including this area in the provincial protected areas system," wrote Minister of Land, Water and Resource Stewardship #NathanCullen in a letter to Grant Trower of Howser, B.C., on Sept. 3.
Trower is the founder of the group #WildlifeHabitatsForTomorrow that has been advocating for the protection of a 531-hectare grove and wetland.
He wants #BritishColumbia to declare the #CedarGroves a protected area, which is a category of protection just short of a full-fledged provincial park.
“There are many #trees in this grove that are well over 1,000 years old, and one that is estimated to be 2,100 years old,” said Trower. “They are the largest trees in the whole southern interior #rainforest. It isn’t just old growth. It’s #ancient old growth.”
He told the Nelson Star that Cullen's letter will not deter him.
"The advocacy is ongoing to ensure this special place will remain for our kids and grandchildren, for this grove is unique and easy to experience," he said, adding that the next steps will include media attention, targeted field trips and obtaining #FirstNations #endorsement.

Despite #BCNDP saying they’ve stopped #renovictions in #BritishColumbia they’re still very much happening. After a ruling from the Residential Tenancy Branch #RTB dozens of #Esquimalt #seniors are being kicked out in four months for the new owners to do renovations.
Many of the #renters being displaced are #LowIncome, either on #disability or a #FixedPension. As a result, most of them can’t afford market rent, and fear they could be homeless.
Because the new owner is doing renovations, not a total demolition, Esquimalt’s #Tenant Assistance Policy isn’t triggered. Any stronger policy is the #BCgovernment jurisdiction.
“It’s time for the provincial government to actually stop this from happening. If they really want to stop renovictions, then they need to change the laws,” said Douglas King, executive director of #TogetherAgainstPovertySociety.
King says what’s needed is a BC-wide #TenantAssistance #policy to better #ProtectTenants facing #displacement, but also to prevent #taxpayers from paying for the consequences down the line.
