The Fourth Quarter edition of Convergent Streams is now accepting submissions, and the theme carries forward the conversation we began this quarter on immigration and belonging.
Theme: Belonging and Advent
Advent has always been a season of waiting. But it is worth remembering that the Holy Family themselves knew displacement intimately. Mary and Joseph traveled while pregnant under census decree with nowhere to lay their heads. And soon after, the newborn Christ became a refugee, carried into Egypt to escape violence at home.
This Advent, we want to sit with that truth. What does it mean to wait in hope while displaced? What does it mean to find belonging in a manger, in exile, on the road? We are looking for reflections, essays, sermons, and pastoral stories that hold Advent and immigration together, not as separate themes, but as one continuous witness.
We welcome submissions from clergy, lay ministers, activists, and anyone moved to write on this theme.

I've been kicking around the idea of a community built around belonging, curiosity, service, and genuine connection. A place where people can gather regularly, hear someone's story or learn something new, have thoughtful conversations over coffee, and build real friendships. Then once a month, instead of just talking about making our community better, we'd go volunteer or work on a local service project together.
Not a church. Not an anti-church. Not a political group.
Just neighbors creating the kind of community many of us wish we had.
Being based in Liberty, MO I've been calling the idea "Liberty Circle" because I love the symbolism of the circle. No one at the head. No one left outside. Just people coming together, making room for one another, and growing together.
Has anyone here been part of something like this? I'd love to hear what worked, what didn't, and what made people keep coming back.

NEW YORK — A couple of years ago, a reporter approached the Boys’ Club of New York looking to interview some of its middle-schoolers for a story about the mental health crisis in boys.
It’s easy to see why. Many of the about 2,500 boys who participate in the 150-year-old organization’s after-school and weekend activities come from disadvantaged socioeconomic backgrounds, often living in single-parent households or facing the threat of immigration enforcement. With limited access to academic and developmental support, the risk factors are plentiful.

and dependence, too, is good,
