Something I've seen more of lately that drives me bonkers is reporting and comments that say that the social support system will collapse because the birthrate is falling therefore people MUST have more babies.

So instead of redesigning how we do social supports (and these systems could use a revamp anyway), we have to force "the right people" (because that's what's underneath all this) to have more kids.

For fuck's sake, talk back to this stuff!

So sorry to everyone I owe replies to … the move was far harder on me than I anticipated. A number of items need to be completely thrown out which is a huge unexpected expense… and only about half my stuff actually got moved in the time we had.

Needless to say I’m having to accept that my baseline is shattered and it might be a bit longer than usual before I can be writing again.

Nothing good comes from pushing our bodies past what they can do, so I’m focusing on rest and finishing this move.

Honestly I wish there was secure and affordable housing for disabled people for life. Being forced to move when you can’t even get out of bed is one of the most stressful things you can be put through … and it Happens to way too many of us.

I fully plan to write an article on housing instability and discrimination against disabled people once I’m back to baseline !

Dr. Lockwood has a sound point.

Mastery-based #education has been shown to be more effective: Instead of holding fixed the duration to learn and varying the #learning outcomes (an inherently and irremediably classist and ableist colonial norm), vary the duration to learn and hold fixed the outcome of topic mastery.

Learning only happens on the output side, but grade-based learning doesn’t promote learning: It promotes playing the system to maximize grades. Eliminate grades, and replace the competition and social sorting with cooperation and constructive education, and you get more learned students.

Only trouble is, the ruling class controlling educational policy consider the social sorting a feature, not a bug: It is selective for their own children against others, thus reducing competition in the higher-paying and more power-proximate labour market. The resulting inequity is the system working as intended.

Consider: who gets to provide their children unlimited access to predictably quiet and peaceful spaces, private tutoring, and anything else they need to maximize grades?

Conveniently for most of them, due to the intergenerational transmission of socioeconomic status this social sorting reinforces, graded education also upholds white supremacy. Also conveniently for the most powerful of them, it bolsters #patriarchy and #eugenics as well.

It should thus come as no surprise that the ruling class are promoting #AI — particularly, “generative” “AI” (read: plagiaristic content synthesis). By offering a shortcut to output without the cognitive effort to come up with said output themselves, it sabotages learning.

Since children of poor and working-class families are most strapped for learning-conducive space and time, they’re most pressured to use #genAI. It is therefore their education most sabotaged in early grades, and them most likely to face expulsion from #PSE for #plagiarism if their AI-generated homework gets them admission.

You're right that #covid isn't like other flus/colds. You're wrong that covid isn't still killing people left & right anymore. It still is #killing people left & right, as well as #disabling a large amount of people who become infected more than once. The problem is governments aren't providing the public with any accurate reports, have stopped funding proper tracking methodology of both infections & covid related deaths, have misled public & conned people into cognitive dissonance/normalizing #eugenics #publichealth policies.

I work in #healthcare. I'm in multiple hospitals, long term care homes, private assisted living homes & multiple medical clinics for my contract work. People are still dying from covid & other illnesses that are triggered/re-triggered from covid infections. Governments are still lying to everyone about it all - while countless people with covid, #longcovid plus those with zero covid & at high risk due to compromised #immunology are dehumanized/devalued by government & treated like crap by ignorant general public.

Normalizing/ignoring covid will only lead to multiple #medical #crisis points & will end up collapsing already overstrained public health care systems. No stable economy either, when more people are becoming #disabled from long covid & unable to work/be limited with work.
