“You’re not fun anymore”
This was one of the last things a friend said to me before ghosting me over my disabilities & covid caution.
My wearing a mask? Not fun
My being bedbound? Not fun
My inability to travel? Not fun
She then said “I don’t know how you can live this way”
Almost everyone with chronic illness experiences this at some point.
Many ableds want us to hide our disabilities.
They want us to be the same as we were before because it makes things more comfortable for them.
If we show them the depths of our suffering?
They can’t cope.
They see us as better off dead.
Let me be perfectly clear… we live this way because we have no choice.
No one taps you on the shoulder and asks if you’re ok with becoming disabled.
No one gets your consent before stripping you of your health and leaving you bed bound.
It just happens. It can occur in the blink of an eye, and there’s not a damn thing we can do about it.
We can’t just go to the doctor and demand to be “fixed”.
We have to adapt. We have to grieve. We have to learn to accept our new life and find ways to cope.
Is it fun? Of course not.
Is it necessary? Yes.
Does it mean we aren’t fun anymore? No.
We’re still the same people we were before we became ill, our bodies just don’t function the way they used to.
We still experience joy and sadness. We still crave human connection.
People who decide we aren’t “fun anymore” are missing out on all the joy and friendship we have to offer.
They’re also denying the reality of the human condition:
Disability happens to almost everyone eventually.
It’s a minority group you can join at any time.
Chronic illness isn’t “fun”. I’m not going to lie and say otherwise.
It’s a difficult life filled with pain, sadness and a lot of disappointment.
But there can also be so much joy, and my former friend’s inability to see that is a poor reflection on her, not me.
We must stop treating people like commodities.
We must stop acting like their value is tied up in what they can produce or their physical ability.
We all have value.
We all have worth.
We all have things that light us up.
I was angry at this person for a long time.
I did so much for them over the years and then got tossed aside like garbage when I was no longer useful.
I’m trying to let the anger go.
I’m trying to remind myself that anyone who can’t love me as I am isn’t worth my time.
It’s not easy.
The pain we experience when people abandon us is real and adds insult to very real injury.
But I promise you there are better days ahead.
There are people who will stick by you no matter what.
People who won’t make you hide your pain and suffering.
There are people who will show up for you and accept you as you are.
Who will wear a mask, hold your hand in the hospital or visit you when you’re laying in bed.
Cherish those people. Nurture those relationships. Make sure they know how much it means to you.
If you’ve read this far and have a disabled person in your life, please reach out to them.
Say hi. Ask how they are. Offer to visit or provide some help. Show up for them.
Never underestimate the power of a small act of kindness, and refuse to leave people behind.

i truly believe people who let their kids get sick like this never wanted to have children in the first place. the #antivax movement is just one of the many faces of #eugenics and #fascism. letting kids get sick to prove their survivability and worthiness, should be considered a form of #childAbuse.
there are legitimate reasons to worry about allergic reactions. so get a pediatrician or family MD with the know-how to mitigate them. that’s what i did for my sons and myself.

Stephen Miller's Eugenic Depiction of the Left
by Joe LowndesA lot has already been said about Stephen Miller’s screed at Rubio’s “Ministerial on the Resurgence of Political Terrorism” the other day. In it, he forcefully called for preemptive repression of the left - a rhetorical line of attack which is coupled with the more concrete imperatives that includes Trump’s NPSM-7 Task Force;and the arrests, indictments, and prosecutions in Prairieland, Minnesota, and a growing number of other locales where there has been grassroots resistance to ICE.
Miller described the left as a deceitful, predatory, insatiably violent, and inevitably “cancerous” threat to civilization in predictably fascist ways, but he then went on to describe it in openly eugenic terms:
“It’s not a coincidence that when you look at these violent antifa demonstrations, you see any photographs of those who are assembled,to be blunt not one of the people demonstrating looks like a normal person. They’re all deformed in some way.”
Anti-communism has always been a central component of fascist politics, but for a number of reasons it currently has a hard time getting real traction in terms of building popular support. As Trump’s panic about the midterms has shown, they need something more than anti-immigrant and anti-trans demonization, which as it turns out has not been enough to produce durable hegemony for MAGA.
Depicting the left as eugenic deformity is meant to add visceral, bodily disgust.This is a particularly dangerous political moment not because of the administration’s strength but because of its vulnerability. This multi-pronged attack on the left is meant to give it a new monster to slay, but more importantly to frighten any regime opponents into submission leading up to the midterms.
Part of the danger is that under certain conditions liberals have historically supported attacks on the left both for ideological and self-servingly partisan reasons. The briefest scroll through the pages of the Atlantic in the last few weeks, not to mention the NYT or numerous other media outlets in the weeks following DSA primary wins in New York and elsewhere demonstrates this possibility, as does the near total silence on the the prosecution of anti-ICE activists across the country.

I am listening to a podcast called Polytechs (politechs.dev) where the hosts interview Dr E. Bender (Computational Linguistics academic, podcaster and author) to talk about Rhetorical technology (all things #AI in this podcast) and besides the reasoned discussion about #GenAISlop and #LLMs in general, which I found most interesting, I was astounded by the amount of research that is available on AI, #GenAI and artificial general intelligence ( #AGI) wondering how is it that none of this material makes the light of day in our public forum discussion or any #NewsOutlets whatsoever. Made me realize how manipulated we all are to think that #GenAI — or as Dr Bender calls Text Extruding machines — is a revolutionary technology that will answer all of our questions.
Dr Bender also talks about the #Racism and #Eugenics that lies behind the historic antecedents of GenAI and the #TechBros push to sell it to us. The discussion also looked at the idea that GenAI #Hallucinates and proposed other words to better reflect what these machines actually produce (Hint: they certainly do not hallucinate).
I was also very receptive to Dr Bender’s #Definition of AI, she says that it is simply a #MarketingTerm and has nothing to do with #Intelligence (artificial or otherwise). I view #ChatGPT and the likes as stochastic word and part-word ordering machines using statistical engines to parsing large uncurated document repositories in a non-deterministic way.

Unlike fascism, eugenics is a valid and mainstream suitable opinion.
(Someone who studies medicine told us this quote a year ago; none of the students resisted.)
If someone wondered why the fuck this medical system, just have a look at medical universities where the next generations of doctors and nurses are trained. Do you see anyone there masked? Professors? Students? During the mandatory internships? Nope. Quite to the opposite; the eugenics, racism, sexism that is inherent in the systems stays mostly unquestioned.
Let's not forget the eugenics is a huge part of of the core ideology of fascism.

given how USA gynecology was literally founded on #racism #misogyny and #eugenics, if you feel your hormone therapy isn't working, demand your MD check your #testosterone levels. for some women, the #ADHD-like symptoms of menopause are caused by low testosterone. the problem is, USA MDs are encouraged NOT to Rx it.
don't know how this applies to our trans sisters, but am gonna bet we could learn a lot from their hormone therapies.

My #disability #lawyer had asked what I do each day. Do I struggle with self care, do I do housework, yardwork, do I have any activities? Any hour spent doing anything could be seen by the #government as against being deemed "disabled enough to not work."

Letting abductees in the concentration camps die of treatable medical conditions is no different than involuntary #euthanasia of the #disabled.
