The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (which is Swedish law since 2020) makes privacy, and I would argue, digital privacy, *extra* important for children.
Article 16 talks about privacy and arbitrary interference in correspondence. It should include using the internet, the way I see it. Protecting the rights of children could be helped by letting children (of course depending on the age when parents think it’s time for them to have e.g. a phone themselves) privacy respecting OSes or E2EE messenger apps like e.g. Signal/Molly or Delta Chat. My children use Delta Chat, communicating with me if they need on their tablet and our common laptop and it’s really easy to use.

This makes statements by representatives of the Swedish police saying parents shouldn’t let their children use Signal ("because it’s used by criminals") or how police in Catalonia/Spain makes buying Pixels (using GrapheneOS) suspicious not only absurd but *seriously inappropriate and reprehensible*.
