  2. #Flock Has a Powerful New #AI Tool for #Police. We Got Its Code

Flock’s #surveillance #cameras have already sparked outrage. WIRED reconstructed its next-generation AI system, already in use by some police, to confirm it goes much further than #tracking license plates.

  3. I remember when I found the #knife in the car (being defleeted and sold to a work colleague) - she was quite alarmed and her first thought was asking if it should be handed in to #Police

I couldn't see any evidence it had been used in crime (vehicles previous owner before it ended up on our fleet was working in construction/trades and simply forgot about it), so it went on my tool trolley.

I last used it to open a cardboard box containing a starter battery, I am going on long drive this weekend through multiple regions so now need to check my car to make sure its not anywhere "close to hand"

Which is how #crime impacts society - #criminals rarely win as they get caught and sent to #prison - but everyone else loses in the process (the case will also be used to justify further #CCTV use)

  4. There’s no real consensus on what distinguishes suicides by cop from other police shootings. Some critics have dubbed it “junk science” and compared it to debunked concepts like “excited delirium,” the purported spontaneous death of people being restrained by police. texasobserver.org/suicide-by-c

  5. “Defunding the police was an idea that stemmed from valuing human life more than a candy bar or a broken taillight.

“The way such an idea was dismissed and characterized as an absurd attack on sensible society and politics, you’d think it was actually enacted and led to the unraveling of the paradise that we lived in. But it wasn’t.”

“Defund…” was a bad slogan for a reasonable idea (scared ppl). #PublicSafety needs a reboot. From the ground up.

  7. “It just shouldn’t be a thing.”

“Suicide by cop” is one of the major lenses through which people view and understand police shootings, but the frequency, the attributes, and even the validity of the concept are ill-understood. texasobserver.org/suicide-by-c

Flock Has a Powerful New #AI Tool for Police. We Got Its Code

"VEHICLE SURVEILLANCE GIANT #Flock Safety has told the public for years that its technology “cannot recognize, identify, or track individuals.” It has now built a system that does both, an artificial intelligence tool for #police that can identify drivers and track vehicles by their patterns of movement alone, WIRED has learned"
