A prisoner in France in the 1670s was transported between prisons with his face hidden by a cloth; rumours grew until Voltaire imagined him to wear an iron mask even in his cell.
His identity is uncertain. The artist here, Daniel Vierge, developed a photographic way to avoid tracing pictures to make engravings. He had a stroke & had to draw with his left hand.

WTF was this #influencer and his mate doing driving all the way from the North to #Suffolk just to #hoon in a car park? Surely there are car parks up there as well, or is he paranoid of the local old bill in his area having attracted too much attention by his bad #driving ?
I think the sentence is fair - the driving ban is going to be far more of a punishment for someone who likes #cars than 9 months in #jail (which will only introduce him to worse criminals and reduce his chances of getting honest/useful employment in the future), but if he drives illegally or does any other crime he *will* end up at His Majesty's Pleasure..

In the US, prisoners are often charged room and board in prison, whilst also being pressed to work for little or no money, meaning they come out in debt, making them either be indentured to a job (which is hard to find with a criminal record) or return to a life of crime.

An #Audi #driver in South #Essex got #prison for #driving at 110 mph ( 177 km/h ) on the highway - this is well over the 50mph (80 km/h) limit for that area. he crashed into 3 #Council workers on ride on lawnmowers, causing 2 of them serious injury (hence #jail time even after a guilty plea).
He claimed the "brakes locked up" - vehicle was a mid 2000s Audi S3 ( Typ 8P ) which has very good brakes with ABS if well maintained, but those won't save anyone from driving too fast for the conditions - in a car review from that era there's warnings against pushing it to the rev limiter and that it can become "uncomposed" - the video from the #Police clearly shows him doing exactly that..

JAIL UPRISING North Carolina!
Prisoners held by North Carolina's Bertie Martin Detention Center have apparetly defeated the guards and taken control of the jail.
In order to withstand the coming siege by SWAT teams or similar militarized police, they need to take or have taken the arsenal, the outer wall and the guard towers. That would turn the captured jail into a powerful fortress capable of overmatching anything short of the military.
Of course, if these were captured before enemy forces could respond the possiblity would have existed of escalating to a mass jail breakout. As of now enemy forces have the jail under siege.
