    Dark Moon

    Pluto, Neptune, Saturn, Chiron Retrograde

    Rainy and mild

This week is all off kilter because of the Monday holiday. We’re not going to discuss that I didn’t take it as a holiday now, are we?

Got through some admin, switched over to the ghostwriting for a bit before I had to head to the library. I dropped off some books and picked up a couple, including the last book I needed for the panel today.

Put together everything we needed for the afternoon, and then made us an early lunch. We headed out the door around 12:30 for the drive to Lenox.

It was a lovely day to be out for a drive. Pittsfield was even more of a nightmare than usual, but, well, Pittsfield. We got through and were still checked in at the facility early.

My mom went in for the surgery. I dashed down to the other end of the complex to Chocolate Sparrow. They were still doing in the iced chocolate, so I got one for myself, and I got the promised chocolate for my mom’s post-surgical treat. A group of five older women came in just as I got my iced chocolate and they asked about it. I told them how wonderful it was, and all five of them ordered it.

I hoofed it back down the complex to the doctor’s office. There’s a café with a lovely patio that serves breakfast that I might want to check out one day.

I sat and read my book until my mom was finished. We got the care instructions. Her leg is wrapped from knee to ankle and can’t get wet for two weeks, and we have a special croc shoe for her that we got at a thrift store a few weeks ago. There’s also a bandage on her groin area where they took the skin for the graft, but that can come off after 36 hours, and the stitches will dissolve.

We set the follow-up appointment in two weeks, first thing in the morning.

They’d used a lot of local anesthetic, and she was high as a kite on the drive home, which was pretty funny. I was a little annoyed that she’s just supposed to take Tylenol for the pain over the next few days. You know if this was a man, they’d have prescribed an opioid. Don’t believe me? King’s College of London did a study on it, which you can read here.

On the way home, I stopped at Walgreen’s in Adams and picked up some more liquid Tylenol. We only had a half a bottle left at home.

Home, got her upstairs and settled. Found a letter from the doctor’s office with a follow-up appointment later on the same day. I will get in touch and cancel the latter appointment and keep the early one, so I don’t lose another whole day of work.

Responded to well wishing messages. She was actually hungry, so I heated up some of her favorite sausage pasta.

Charlotte and Willa were confused because I handled the bedtime snacks. Usually, my mom gives out the bedtime snacks. It didn’t stop them from eating them, they were just confused. Tessa and Bea don’t care who doles them out, as long as they get them.

We all went to bed early. I woke up after two hours, then went back to sleep and slept through until a little after 5. By the level on the Tylenol bottle in the kitchen, my mom had needed some in the night, then asked for more while I gave the cats their breakfast.

Morning routine was fine. I’m about to make breakfast and get my mom settled for the day. I think she should stay in bed today. She needs to keep the leg up anyway. She might be more comfortable on the sofa or in her chair. We will see. She’s doing remarkably well, especially for someone over 100. And I have her permission to post about it, so I’m not being intrusive.

I have some final prep for the festival, and run down to the bank when they open to get some change. It’s raining, so I have to pack everything in waterproof bags to take up, since I’m not driving.

I might try to get a little ghostwriting done before I leave this morning, but I have a feeling not much will get done.

I expect I’ll be home a little after 8 PM tonight, so we’re having a late dinner of leftover paella.

    Tomorrow is another busy day.

    Have a good one.

  2. This is CogDogBlogged: "Stop Whatever You Are Doing and Record those Family Voices"

Not that anybody is knocking on my door asking for life advice, but here it is dispensed anyhow. Do yourself a future favor, and record by any means possible the people who carry your family stories. I could not be more thankful for the voices I have digitally preserved, my grandmother, my mom.

Last week I tuned into Bryan Alexander’s Future Trends Forum because, well, Bryan runs a fantastic […]

  3. When I'd sometimes meet mom for dinner, she'd tell me how much stuff she was getting rid of and that it felt so good to be clearing things out.

After she passed away and her younger sister (my aunt) gave me boxes of mom's things, I was pleasantly surprised at just how much she'd kept. I wasn't expecting that at all.

It most certainly makes that stuff all the more special. Like this little sweater of mine that I found in one of the boxes.

  9. This is CogDogBlogged: "15 and 25 Make…"

40 cents or a very long time? Today is the marker the day my Dad passed away 25 years ago, nabbed by Cancer.

Then ten years later to the day, the morning where I called Mom from my road trip across Canada. We laughed and talked about the sadness of missing Dad, then 10 years gone. And what we do in a month when I visited her in Florida.

How would I know less then 12 hours later while having […]

  11. If I Could Relive One Day
If you could relive one day from your past, which day would it be and why? If I could relive one day from my past, I honestly couldn’t pick one specific day. I’d pick any day when both of my parents were still alive. It wouldn’t have to be a holiday. It wouldn’t have to […]

  12. "The Sleep of Madame Vuillard," Édouard Vuillard, c. 1891-2.

Vuillard (1868-1940) belonged to my favorite school of art, The Nabis, and is one of my overall favorite artists. His understanding of pattern and ability to incorporate it into his work always amazes me.

Here we have little pattern, but we do have an important figure: his mother. Madame Vuillard was a dressmaker so his home was always heaped with samples of fabric. He never married (although had a few relationships with various women) and lived with his mother until her death. He did multiple paintings inspired by her work, including one of dressmakers working in an environment full of heaped swatches of cloth, and his eye for depicting clothing was remarkable. His mother is credited with that.

The Nabis went their separate ways after their 1900 exhibition, and while Vuillard's style changed, he still focused on intimate interiors and depictions of his assorted muses, including his mother.

    From the Musée d'Orsay, Paris.

Regardless, I've spent my entire life with #rotten, #ugly, #brown #teeth (even my baby teeth!) because the #medicine stripped the #enamel off them. 😢
