  6. 🤦‍♂️ Ah yes, because what the world really needs is a bunch of #teenagers in #Australia making space tech "affordable" for schools, while we're still struggling to get them basic Wi-Fi. 🚀 Maybe next they'll fix the potholes in the Milky Way with their pocket money. 🙄

  11. [another excerpt of me talking to an inner teenager]

    Ugh. Sorry, I keep making "ugh" sounds! It's just – everything is SO frustrating!!!

    UGH.

    > UGH!

    Haha! Thanks for letting me. Grown ups usually think us teenagers have no valid opinions.

    > UGH is a totally valid opinion!

    LOL

    > No, seriously. It's your intuition saying that you don't want something. It's super valuable. Science has shown that intuition is a truth we already know, even if our conscious thinking may take a while to catch up to understand HOW we know it. But you already know the truth when you feel a good ol' UGH coming on!

    Heh! I like that. Cool :)

  14. Texas Children's #Hospital must pay TX $10M fine, and run a "de-transition" clinic for free for five years, after some doctors continued to provide #hormone #therapy to #teenagers there.
    Conservatives target the most vulnerable among us for political gain. They shift targets depending on poll data.
    This cruelty is the point; people - especially religious people - really feel better when they know they've hurt someone different from them.

  28. Typed worlds, or: Before the graphics loaded

    A Sijo

    YouTube histories play
    blur alongside old Netflix reruns;
    multi-user dungeon echoes
    drift through Netscape loading bars;
    next to my fave mall arcade
    my seventh-grade self waits for his buds

    Reena’s Xploration Challenge 429

    For Reena’s RXC prompt, she invites us to compose poems inspired by the fantasy genre and imagine ourselves unexpectedly arriving somewhere strange while late-night doom-scrolling online.

    Sijo?

    A Korean verse form related to haiku and tanka and comprised of three lines of 14-16 syllables each, for a total of 44-46 syllables. Each line contains a pause near the middle, similar to a caesura, though the break need not be metrical. The first half of the line contains six to nine syllables; the second half should contain no fewer than five. Originally intended as songs, sijo can treat romantic, metaphysical, or spiritual themes. Whatever the subject, the first line introduces an idea or story, the second supplies a “turn,” and the third provides closure. Modern sijo are sometimes printed in six lines.

    Let’s write poetry together!

    When it comes to partnership, some humans can make their lives alone – it’s possible. But creatively, it’s more like painting: you can’t just use the same colours in every painting. It’s just not an option. You can’t take the same photograph every time and live with art forms with no differences.

    Ben Harper (b. 1969)

    Would you like to create poetry with me and have a completed poem of yours featured here at the Skeptic’s Kaddish? I am very excited to have launched the ‘Poetry Partners’ initiative and am looking forward to meeting and creating with you… Check it out!

  35. At 6:15 am after taking out the garbage, I return to find my 13-year old son excitedly crossing the floor to check texts on his phone. That done, he slumps into a chair, *appearing* exhausted.

    I finish setting up the coffee and retreat upstairs to the office. He *follows* me into the office, looms behind me. "What?" I ask him.

    "Can you get me a donut?" he asks.

    "Get your own fucking donut! Show the same energy as when you checked your phone." I say.
