I prefer to forget the first commercial #pantomime I ever attended. It was in #Wimbledon and my #mother took my brother and I to see the show which starred Adam Faith. It was two hours with fingers in my ears trying to keep out the #screaming of all the older #teenage #girls in the audience.

I received a letter from the #UK #government Department of Work & Pensions (#dwp) recently. It was sent to my old address and had arrived thanks to the forwarding service of #RoyalMail.

They told me I couldn't do it online due to one of the answers I gave, so I made a phone call.

After 30 minutes of repeatedly being told they knew I was #waiting it was great to speak to a human with a thoroughly #English accent. I could understand her and enjoy a little chit chat. Since my #teenage #years I've been known by my middle name. That's common in Ireland, I was told. She confessed to having Irish relatives in her family.

But to the point of this toot! I really should have told her that #Google reckons the number I rang belongs to a company called "Funerals on a Budget". After the call a dialogue appeared asking me #laughing I managed to close the #dialogue before answering.

My mother had a surprisingly good take on it: Jareth was exactly the villain Sarah needed him to be, asked him to be. This does not change the fact he is a villain, but it goes a long way to explain the complexity of their relationship.

Mom also said that Labyrinth was one of the very few movies she'd ever seen that portrayed the life of a #teenage #girl in all its #complexity: very adult desires awakening, coexisting briefly with a childhood that's not ready to go yet. And, per Mom, if the movie's themes make you uncomfortable, you are the one with the problem, because you are telling teenage girls an honest portrayal of their existence makes you uncomfortable.

I'm conflicted about the concept (and govt has 0 plans to introduce it) -it would make things difficult for both young #UK
