Teens are up half the night, almost every night, yet high school days are geared for 8-year-olds whose parents are capable of compelling them to go do bed when they say to. This does not describe a teenager.
Really, the high school day revolves around the convenience of the school administrators, in addition to those teachers everyone knows are jerks.
