“An Olympic gold medal says you were the best on one particular day. A #WorldRecord says no one has done it faster on any day.
    #MasaiRussell now owns both distinctions.
Just 37 minutes after Alison dos Santos broke the men’s 400H record, Russell crossed the line in 12.09 to take the women’s 100H into territory it had never legally entered” trackandfieldnews.com/russell-

  8. Undisputed evidence that the long-standing suspicion of Florence Griffith-Joyner running her world record under strong wind, with the anemometer reading wrongly at 0.0 wind. Check the 51th second of the video youtube.com/watch?v=REGAD32IPLM
For a few FRAMES you will see the SECOND anemometer on the long jump on the back, running alognside the 100m track, reading +4.3m. The suspicion was right, that world record should have never counted.

#SabastianSawe broke the two-hour #marathon barrier. #JoshKerr shattered a 27-year-old #mile record. Scientists explain what actually separates a #worldrecord that's ripe to fall from one that may never be broken

“sticky” #worldrecords sometimes come from #running “geniuses” who, for whatever reasons, have the ideal set of mental and training skills to take giant whacks at what was previously believed impossible run.outsideonline.com/history/

#JoshKerr can break a 27-year-old mile world record and still catch heat from #JakobIngebrigtsen.

  13. 2) I followed up the original article with a piece on 21 year old discus thrower, Anna Gavigan

Ireland has struggled to produce world class athletes in field events. Anna is knocking at the door and sadly her attempt to qualify for the European Champs got stymied by a poor vetting process- my view

Athletics Ireland, the governing body of the sport needs to take a look at how they determine who goes to championship events

At the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, #DonovanBailey ran 9.84s to win gold and set a world record in the 100m. It was Canada’s first sprint gold since 1928, helping restore pride in Canadian #TrackAndField after the Ben Johnson scandal. 🇨🇦 #Olympics #Canada #1996 #Running

  15. Has anyone ever done, officially or not, a reverse relay race? So, 4 x 100m (or 400m) but when you hand over the baton your teammate is going the opposite way. The relay recipients get the same ‘run up’ they’d get in the regular race, just the other way.

Is this a thing? If not, what’s stopping it being a thing? Surely not chaos, it sounds like FUN.

As somebody that likes the "Field" in "Track and Field", I was dissapointed by Michael Johnson's willingness to discard half the sport in his venture. That said, I think the concept had some merit whatever about its financing and organization

  20. Big performance today in the #HammerThrow at the #KipKeino classic in #Nairobi.

#EthanKatzberg of #Canada produces a throw of 84.38m to easily overwhelm a world class field. Impressive throwing for a man who just turned 22.

Looks like Yuri Sedykh’s 86.74m World Record set in 1986 will be vulnerable this year
