Firing the bells for treason and plot, a tradition in our tower on the practice night nearest 5th November. In the 19th century the ringers were paid 7 shillings to ring on this occasion. This year the bells were half-muffled for Remembrance.

Cried at the story of Valerie again, it gets me every time.
Such a great book, such a great movie adaptation.

From childhood I’ve always loved fireworks, both the visual spectacle and the cacophony of noise that accompanies them. I even buy some from time to time.
That said, I get that they are not universally popular. For organised events I think that drone swarm displays are the future, and if it has to be fireworks, we should ideally be good neighbours and buy the quieter ones.

Since it is November 5th, Bonfire Night here in the UK, I was talking to a chum about the comics & film of V For Vendetta.
My French chum introduced me to the French dubbed version of the film, in which, remarkably, the translator managed to keep the famous introduction speech where he uses only words beginning with "V", even in French https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s1S-iNcXGTk
