  2. Remember, remember, the fifth of November... Tonight was Bonfire Night in Great Britain, which celebrates the foiling of a plot in 1605 to destroy Westminster and blow the king and government to smithereens. History Extra Magazine takes a look at what might have happened if the group of English Catholics, led by Guy Fawkes, had been successful.

  3. From childhood I’ve always loved fireworks, both the visual spectacle and the cacophony of noise that accompanies them. I even buy some from time to time.

That said, I get that they are not universally popular. For organised events I think that drone swarm displays are the future, and if it has to be fireworks, we should ideally be good neighbours and buy the quieter ones.

  4. (Repost from last year, originally posted on another instance)

Guy Fawkes night originally celebrated the failure of the Gunpowder plot. These days, Guy Fawkes has also become a symbol of malcontent with the government & fighting for freedom, ala V for Vendetta.

    Never lose hope.

  7. Kira’s not afraid of fireworks the way the boys are, but she does get quite annoyed by them. She barks, which upsets the other dogs even when they’re sedated. So last night I gave her a bit of trazodone too.

The effects are still in play 18h later.
