#FireworksDisplay in #WeymouthBay in 2012. There used to be weekly displays through August plus #BonfireNight and special events. "Chemistry in the sky" as various metallic salts create a range of firework colours due to excitation states on ignition, with the consequent cascade of energy levels releasing wavelength-energy-specific light

If in the UK and dealing with pets stressed by the fireworks, can highly recommend Pet Classics playing on Classic FM till 9pm.

Firing the bells for treason and plot, a tradition in our tower on the practice night nearest 5th November. In the 19th century the ringers were paid 7 shillings to ring on this occasion. This year the bells were half-muffled for Remembrance.

I didn't hear so many fireworks going off this year for #BonfireNight
I wonder why that is.

Remember, remember, the fifth of November... Tonight was Bonfire Night in Great Britain, which celebrates the foiling of a plot in 1605 to destroy Westminster and blow the king and government to smithereens. History Extra Magazine takes a look at what might have happened if the group of English Catholics, led by Guy Fawkes, had been successful.

It's November 5th so I watched V For Vendetta again, I do most years.
Cried at the story of Valerie again, it gets me every time.
Such a great book, such a great movie adaptation.

I asked a British friend of mine currently living in Toronto if he was going to celebrate Guy Fawkes day today at home.
He told me “I really wish Canada did bonfire night. It’s like a more murderous British Diwali.”

Fantastic spectacle, as usual, in Lewes, East Sussex.

From childhood I’ve always loved fireworks, both the visual spectacle and the cacophony of noise that accompanies them. I even buy some from time to time.
That said, I get that they are not universally popular. For organised events I think that drone swarm displays are the future, and if it has to be fireworks, we should ideally be good neighbours and buy the quieter ones.

Since it is November 5th, Bonfire Night here in the UK, I was talking to a chum about the comics & film of V For Vendetta.
My French chum introduced me to the French dubbed version of the film, in which, remarkably, the translator managed to keep the famous introduction speech where he uses only words beginning with "V", even in French https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s1S-iNcXGTk
C'est formidable!

Wow. They've really overdone it with the fireworks this year where I am. There's just constant rumbling and bangs.

Time for bonfire night. Remind me, are we celebrating the deed of sedition, or the fact it was defeated? #guidofawkes #BonfireNight #GuyFawkesNight #remember

(Repost from last year, originally posted on another instance)
Guy Fawkes night originally celebrated the failure of the Gunpowder plot. These days, Guy Fawkes has also become a symbol of malcontent with the government & fighting for freedom, ala V for Vendetta.
Never lose hope.

Google really don’t have a clue about the UK, do they?
Today (according to those muppets) is “Guy Fawkes Day” in the UK.
Ask anyone here what we call it, and that is NOT it.
“Bonfire night.”
(Even ‘Guy Fawkes Night’ for some)
Never ‘day’. 😂😂😂

Happy Guy Fawkes Night to all those who celebrate.
For those not familiar with the tradition, it's when we commemorate the (failed) attempt by Guy Fawkes and his co-conspirators to blow up the Houses of Parliament with barrels of gunpowder.
I will leave it to you to form your own value judgements about whether blowing up the Houses of Parliament is a good thing or a bad thing.
Oh, and stay safe folks. Bonfires can be dangerous
