  7. Ancient mystery solved!

Back in the mid 90s, Paul Gambaccini hosted the Classic FM chart show. Had a lovely piece of stirring music behind the final countdown, just before he confirmed Gorecki III was still number one.

It's the "Homage march", written as incidental music from Edvard Grieg's "Sigurd Jorsalfar".

Next question: why does Henry Kelly aspirate the H in Beethoven?

  8. Don't know if it's audio compression, or just a different recording.

In the Apollo 13 Soundtrack, there's a repeated theme with flowing strings and a distinct plucked bass note. Now, I have a CD recording of the track "All Systems Go / The Launch" on a #ClassicFM at the Movies album. On that recording, the bass note is almost subliminally deep. It's audible, but almost as a feeling than a sound.

Alternatively, the version of this track on YouTube (and currently playing on StreamingSoundtracks) has a much more audible, "twangy" bass note. It's more like a bass guitar than an organ.

As I say, I can't tell if the difference is that the YouTube algorithm has compressed the sound, or if it is actually a real difference due to a different recording, but my point (I'd get there eventually) is that I prefer the CD version. The "newer" version makes the bass note too noticeable for my taste.

  9. John Humphrey on #Radio4Today drove me away from the BBC. Now the revolting #Brexit barstuard is peddling his geriatric slime on #ClassicFM #NoEscape

  10. Moving away from politics for a few blessed moments, if you're a fan of #ClassicalMusic you've got 10 days left to vote in #ClassicFM's Hall of Fame 2023. It's always rather lovely to listen to over the Easter weekend, and there are often some surprising inclusions. 🎵🎶

  11. It’s so bizarre. Listening to #ClassicFM on the radio, much talk of freezing temperatures, snow closing roads and here we are in Normandie and it doesn’t even qualify as chilly. 11c when I popped out to the jam fridge just now!

  12. Love listening to #ClassicFM but I really don't like #Christmas #music which is now kinda like 50% of their playlist.

Only so many carols I can take.
