  1. 📷 #ThrowbackThursday

First elk spotting, Cherokee, November 26, 2025, 4:50 PM.

This bull stopped outbound rush-hour traffic as vehicles paused to gawk and take snapshots.

  2. For today's #throwbackThursday is a glimse of a calm spring morning by the #river, listening to #birds sing and #water flowing.

  3. Back in 2018 my dad (RIP) donated a piece of artwork to the Tampa Museum of Art. When my brother and I visited him in December of that year we visited the museum to see it in place. #ThrowbackThursday

I hadn’t thought about this in years until I got a letter from the museum (addressed to him) soliciting donations. I wrote back via email explaining he had died, and asking to be removed from the mailing list.

I got back a sweet reply, starting with this: My deep condolences for the loss of your father.  We did not know of your father's passing and appreciate you notifying us. 101 years!!  WOW - Amazing!

  5. From May: What my media server components cost (2026 edition). At least at the start of summer; who knows what several months of AI nonsense makes it now. (Also not here: a 8TB drive I bought to upgrade storage.)

  7. How does retrospective bias, a human memory error, affect conservation? For #ThrowbackThursday this week, we turn to a study that combined daily fisher logbooks with historical interviews, with results revealing that relying solely on recent data might lead us to underestimate how vulnerable a species truly is.

  8. Another picture from the Castro Street Fair... this time in 2012.

The person you see on the rooftop was protesting a newly enacted city law that banned full nudity except where permitted at a handful of city beaches, street fairs, and bike and foot race events.

Yes, the protester is fully naked except for the letters on his chest spelling CENSORSHIP. But no, I am not posting peen pictures for you on Mastodon, ya filthy bastards :) I was careful to choose a modest angle to take this photo.

Add: the laws limiting nudity are frequently ignored in the Castro... so on any given day when the sun is out, one is likely to see nature in its fullest, although not necessarily finest, out on the sidewalks.

  10. It's #ThrowbackThursday and this isn't a nude, but I was browsing thru my old photos and found this ridiculously handsome selfie from 2013, from that time I tried to dye my hair blond but it came out looking sort of orange/pink instead.

  11. Something for #ThrowbackThursday

I took this picture in Sydney the day after the Bondi shooting last Dec. I felt it was important for people to stay united in times of crisis and the message still resonates today.

  12. About four decades ago, a coworker of my mom visited Australia and brought back gifts for people she cared about. Her gift to my mom is still in use. It still looks and works quite well, as I found out myself a few days ago. ☺️
