First ride to work since 2015 🚲
By car, it takes me about 20 minutes, with lots of standing around in traffic.
By bike? 30 minutes. Just fun. 😄

wonder what the ebike's heart looks like? - here...
This part reminds of that iron man scene where Tony Stark changed his "heart" (his reactor) and pepper put it in "proof that Tony Stark has a heart" box.

Taking my ebike wheel off
I don't know who needs this info in the future but Heybike Cityscaper use 19mm bolt so you cannot use 11/16 -13/16. I was so confused until I realized they use the metric wrench not imperial.

I just picked up my new “job-bike”. I missed riding an e-bike. 😬😬

Dutch police confiscate “skinny bike” that can reach 120 km/h from young boy
Instead of pedals, the “bike” now had a throttle. When police when to test just how fast the bike could go, it proved it can be just as speedy as a car on a motorway — minus, the safety of a bumper and airbags.

«have tried putting it off and on again?»
En ik zie nog een bui aan komen waaien...
Zou het?

As a bicycle commuter, I have firsthand experience seeing young kids on e-bikes. 100% are a danger to themselves and others. They just don’t understand the rules of the road.
The states need to require a motor vehicle drivers license for every e-bike that has a throttle.
Sorry Class II. You’re not a bicycle. You’re an electric moped or motorcycle.

Preston and Lanesboro are considering placing ebike chargers near the Root River Trail and Preston-Harmony Trail.
I'm fine with 1 and 2 class, don't like how class 3 are closer to eMotos than eBikes.
Would love for them to have solar power assistance too, so probably needs to be more secure than I thought when I took the survey.

Kids keep getting hurt and killed on e-bikes. Should parents be held responsible?
As traumatic injuries and deaths surge among children involved in crashes on e-bikes and other electrified vehicles, a California prosecutor is cracking down by pursuing criminal charges against some of the young riders’ parents.

https://coloradosun.com/2026/08/14/colorado-e-bike-rebates-1000-revived/
"Coloradans with incomes at or below 80% of the median for their county can join the quarterly lotteries for the vouchers, which helped nearly 8,000 residents buy e-bikes during the last program run. Colorado has about $3 million to spend on the renewed version of the vouchers.
E-bike voucher programs run by the state and Denver have been oversubscribed for years, and state officials said 89% of those who got rebates in the first state program would not have bought an e-bike without the steep discount. Those who qualify for the new round of $1,000 vouchers can use an additional $300 for a cargo bike or an adaptive e-bike, with no extra qualification necessary. "

I'm jumping into the #ebike debate! Here's my video that compares the speed of ebikes to acoustic bikes.

Out for a ride on the Mokwheel. A mix of bike trails and roads. Still happy with this thing.

New Jersey's e-bike law is over the top and pretty much prohibits anyone from using them. It requires licensing, insurance and proof of ownership. Only those 15 yrs and older may ride an e-bike.

Back in 2021, A. and I were bicycle touring around Vermont, laboring up steep hills on loaded touring bikes in order to get to the next brewery and take a break. As we pedaled and sweated in the stifling summer heat, smarter locals would spin by us on ebikes. We joked that we were old farts on penny farthings. One night, at dinner, a gentleman admired our bikes and I asked if he rode too. Yes, he said, but he wished that his wife would ride with him. "Get her an ebike," I helpfully offered. He scoffed at the idea. Oh well. At least we're not THAT old.
Earlier this Spring, we found ourselves once again chugging our way up cruelly-steep hills, this time in Pennsylvania's Endless Mountains. We don't pack particularly light, but we don't pack many luxuries either. But we do have camping gear, including a camp kitchen, and this trip required carrying several days of camp food in order to avoid day after day of gas station cuisine. And I have camera gear - easily another 3-4 lbs.
I don't remember what gravelly, 18% ascent we were on when the idea of touring on ebikes floated into our heads. It would certainly help with the climbing, of course, but it would also add a layer of charging complexity to the day-to-day logistics.
Which leads us to my next bike project - an ebike. The old Gary Fisher Hoo Kee e Koo mountain bike that I just finished last summer is going to be transmogrified again. We thought about buying an ebike, and found many temping ones (like the Ride1Up Roadster V3), but my frugal side won, and I've bought the pieces to DIY the Hoo Koo, a Toseven DM-02 mid-drive motor and an ebike battery. The hope is that I'll get smarter about ebikes by building one and be smarter about their purchase and repair if we buy one to tour with. And it's already started - I already learned what a Hailong battery is. I'm still baffled by all the types and whatnot, but I'm that much more knowledgeable about things.
The idea is to build it and maybe try it on a trip or two and see how assisted climbing and charging logistics change the vibe. Will it make finding campgrounds with charging more difficult? Will range anxiety be a bummer? Will the assist of the hills be a drug? We'll bring one e-bike and one "non-e" bike, put all the heavy stuff on the e-bike, and see how it goes.
So come along as I try to build an ebike!

Laura Laker has the next in our series exploring the cultural issues affecting the #ebike space.
Taking a separate angle to our exploration of the gig economy worker's point of view, Laura did the shadowed Stu Ford and his 10-person team of Cycle Cops.
Laura sought to understand the methods the Cycle Cops are using to spot illegal modifications & overpowered vehicles that are purporting to be e-bikes.

This will be my first year commuting to work in the winter on an ebike. I know you can get neoprene covers to wrap around the bike where the battery is, with the idea to keep it warmer for better performance.
Does anyone use those battery covers? Do they actually work?

Are muscle powered mountain bikes dead? I’ve spent 10 days riding through mountains of Slovenia and Italy, and I’ve seen maybe 20 MTBs and thousands of eMTBs. I get that riding up a mountain when you only do this once a year on your vacation is extremely challenging, but what happened to the people who do this as sport? (And no, I’ve not seen that many gravel bikes doing offroad. Almost none in fact. Also not talking about bike parks.)
