The reason we need so many police is because we have so many cars. If there were fewer cars on the road, there would be no excuse to have so many police, and to fund so many police. In order to move the needle on defunding the police and demilitarizing the police, we must at the same time push for more mass transit, bicycle, and pedestrian INFRASTRUCTURE.
Not just bike lanes, but entire bike routes that connect to the busiest parts of the city/town you live in to its periphery. People need both an uninterrupted north/south and east/west bike corridor across the city that connects to essential services and places where people actually work.
Not bike lanes in rich neighborhoods, uninterrupted bike corridors that take lanes away from cars and create paths across the city that people can safely travel without ever needing a car.
It is essential to see these are related. Speeding tickets bring in money for the police.
Cars off the road = police off the road.
