  1. The Los Angeles County Westside Council of Governments is currently undergoing a Westside Bus Connection Study. What if we created a full Bus Rapid Transit line between Hollywood and LAX via La Cienega, Venice, and Sepulveda, similar to the new North Hollywood - Pasadena Line?

  2. Almost two weeks after launch of Better Breeze, MARTA Rail and Rapid A lines still don't have new validators ready at enough stations and remain essentially free. But people have not flocked en masse to the system since they opened the gates, so free fares will not result in higher ridership.

  3. @philip I think it'll be weeks or months, more likely months, before it's fixed.

It will remain fixed for a period of days or weeks.

Then it will break down again.

Some context for people seeing this outside Melbourne: Box Hill is the main commercial "hub" of Melbourne's eastern suburbs. It's not yet a second downtown, but there's some suggestions it could eventually become one.

There's a growing number of tall office buildings and apartment towers. I took some photos last time I was in Melbourne: https://pixelfed.social/p/ajsadauskas/911568051347668761

At the centre is a multimodal transport Interchange called Box Hill Central.

Underneath is a train station on two lines running from the centre of Melbourne to the outer eastern suburbs. On the ground floor is a shopping centre, market, and large food court. Nearby is a tram line and an under-construction metro.

And on the rooftop is a major bus station that serves multiple bus lines across Melbourne's eastern suburbs. I think about 12 or 14 in total?

There's whole suburbs where the sole connection to the rest of Melbourne's public transport network is a bus that runs to Box Hill Central.

Anyone transferring from those busses to a connecting train or tram, or travelling to Box Hill, depends on this one escalator.

  8. Now taking bets: will Hell freeze over before the Box Hill Bus Station escalator is fixed?

Apparently nobody knows when this will be back in service. Transport Victoria don't know and the shopping centre have no timeline.

  14. Day 132 of my #365project. First commute to the new job’s office. Most days I’m working remotely but it is nice to meet the team in person some days. Weird being in a non-restaurant corporate role but I am grateful for the benefits and change of pace.

  25. Anyways, now that I've settled in #Seattle (pun not intended) I must try the #transit. And yeah, I've taken the Crosslake a few times now... It's hard to get a good picture on the bridge itself though, so here's the newer train (which I like more than the older one).

  26. Although discussion about mobility and transport cannot dispense with scrutiny of diverse modes and technologies, we must not let a fog of technicalities obfuscate the larger political question of whether we the people can afford to hand over the control of our mobility to private actors, be they long established corporations like Ford or GM, newer entities like Alphabet Inc's Waymo, or state capitalist enterprises like BYD.

  27. I don't want to say that P3 is a BAD idea for transit, but it has to be done very carefully. The good examples are rare and the many bad ones usually inspire headlines with words like "forced to resign."

*sigh* the things we will do instead of taxing Uber...
