A new real-time map now tracks trains across France, Spain and Belgium.

Launched with an initial focus on the three countries, TrainTracker24 lets users browse Europe’s railway network in real time, from how many trains are active, average delay time in minutes, percentage of on-time trains as well as the percentage of cancellations.

2. #Trains are very very slow, at least the ones we took from #Bilbao to #Burgos. Very comfortable, too, but slow even for italian standards (btw to my surprise it seems that italian trains are increasing their status in Europe). The very long time span to move from a city to another also motivated the rental of a car to move, for example, from Burgos to #Santander: allegedly 2,5 hours vs 6 (!) . 🙄

On the last day of my trip I had (perhaps misguidedly) arranged to take the train down from Cairns to Townsville, then fly back to Melbourne from there that night.

Nice to have a train ride though tropical scenery, but it did make for a *very* long day (the train left Cairns at 7.40am, and my plane landed at MEL at 11.30pm).

Interestingly, the train I caught from Cairns yesterday morning is only just now arriving in Brisbane, 27 hours later. Shows you just how big Queensland is.
