  1. In Pomerania, the soon-to-be voivodeship railway SKM Trójmiasto has crossed a hurdle towards taking over regional electrified lines - Polregio's appeal against the award has been dismissed, despite SKMT seemingly undervaluing their offer by about the amount they overvalued their offer for the urban trains they already ran (where Polregio doesn't have the resources to compete). This latter lot has yet to be formally awarded despite the seemingly forgone conclusion, perhaps because of the open questions: rynek-kolejowy.pl/wiadomosci/p

  2. The newly-restored line to Łomża will only have three pairs of regional trains on weekends (four on working days) - less than the four required by the terms of the Kolej Plus scheme covering the investment. The voivodeship justifies this with 'continuing works' and claims that the proper minimum service will be run - once the project is really done: rynek-kolejowy.pl/wiadomosci/p

  3. In Upper Silesia, the metropolitan area has announced its intentions to have trains running from Katowice to the town of Bieruń (Bieruń Stary station, to be exact) every hour once the passenger infrastructure is properly restored (and work at Katowice station is complete) in 2029. This would be an extension of some of the trains currently terminating in Tychy Lodowisko. Further extensions to Oświęcim or Mysłowice ought to be the next step: rynek-kolejowy.pl/wiadomosci/g

  7. So, a little Rynek Kolejowy drop: Koleje Dolnośląskie (Lower Silesian Railways) will take over the remaining Głogów-Zielona Góra trains from Polregio, having previously been given all trains running through from Wrocław. The Zielona Góra-Żary-Węgliniec-Görlitz route will remain with Polregio for the time being despite speculation and the voivodeship's continued disappointment with the company's performance. The Lubusz Voivodeship also confirmed their Lower Silesian counterparts' earlier announcement that they will be running Legnica-Cottbus trains (as seen at mastodon.com.pl/@HaTetsu/11643): rynek-kolejowy.pl/wiadomosci/k

  8. @DrMcStrange I just dug in a little deeper: it appears that the first Russian rail terminal in St Petersburg in the 1830s had a pleasure garden (a "Vauxhall") attached to it to entice vistors.

People ended up using the word to describe the whole terminal complex rather than just the pleasure garden, then it was downcoded to a generic eponym for other terminals as the rail lines spread through the Tsarist Empire (much as any periodic thermal spring is called a "geyser" in English, after Geysir in Iceland).

  24. 🇪🇺📱🎫🚆 The #European Commission has proposed new rules to simplify booking rail #travel across #Europe and strengthen passenger rights on journeys involving multiple operators. The plans aim to make it easier to compare, book and combine regional, long-distance and cross-border services on a single ticket through one platform.

Passengers would gain full protection for the entire journey, including assistance, rerouting, refunds and compensation if connections are missed. The proposals also require ticketing platforms to present travel options fairly and, where possible, include greenhouse gas emissions data.

The Commission says the changes support climate goals and respond to public demand for easier cross-border #rail travel. The proposals will now be considered by the European Parliament and #EU member states.
