Who here is from California, Las Vegas, or the U.S. east coast? Is America about to get it's first high speed rail?!

For one example: when I was working for Avalon Hill, it became the main way for Eric Dott to bring me to Baltimore for an editorial conference (variously and capriciously defined).
So I loved taking the train but Amtrak, for a time, meant RPG work in Baltimore with a side of trauma. 😅
The industry wasn't ... good.

Do conductors sometimes not check tickets?
We traveled on an Amtrak train from Philadelphia to NYC a couple of weeks ago and nobody checked our tickets during, before, or after the trip. Does the chance/fear of paying a huge fine keep people buying tickets?
