Called my dad who spent nearly 40 years as a railroad man for Norfolk Southern (and Norfolk & Western before that) we were talking about what how terrible it would be for American shipping if Norfolk Southern is allowed to merge with Union Pacific like they want to, which in turn would probably force CSX to merge with the remaining big railroad and create a situation where most of the freight railroads in America are owned by just 3 companies (most northern freight is operated by a Canadian company)

Today’s family outing was to the #railroad #museum in Capreol. We had an insane amount of fun crawling all over the #caboose, railroad cars, and engine they had on display.

I was especially mesmerized by the mobile school, which could be pulled between remote communities, spend a week running classes, then leave homework and move to the next community.

Also impressive was the special car, an insulated vessel, that can hold copper in molten form for 4 hours for transport.
