  4. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🚲 #Edinburgh #Waverley #railway station has renewed its partnership with The Bike Station to pass on unclaimed #bicycles for refurbishment and reuse.

Each year, dozens of bikes are left at the station. Over the past two years, more than 60 have been abandoned after attempts to reunite them with owners. Bikes are stored in cycle racks for up to two weeks, then moved to secure storage for six months before being released if unclaimed.

On 22 April, around 30 bicycles were collected and taken to Polmont Prison for cleaning and servicing as part of the refurbishment process.

The Bike Station refurbishes and resells bikes at affordable prices, reinvesting income into #cycling access projects, maintenance training and schemes such as Kids Bike Life.

The initiative helps reduce congestion at busy #cycle storage areas while supporting sustainable transport, skills development and wider community access to #cycling.

  11. “Safety measures, such as never leaving an #ebike charging unattended, can help reduce the likelihood of a fire, injuries or death if the batteries do ignite, officials said….Most battery fires are in unregulated or aftermarket products that will often be more likely to catch fire than the certified ones...Extension cords have been linked to battery fires, so always plug in your battery charger directly into an outlet.” kqed.org/news/12078862/fire-bi

#Bosch was the first e-bike brand to ensure that all its batteries, motor systems, and chargers are compliant with UL 2849, a rigorous international e-bike safety standard. Safety testing is essential because while e-bike batteries can be made safe, accidents involving lower-quality batteries can be pretty scary.” store.ternbicycles.com/blogs/a

  17. Blinded by the LED lights on oncoming cars, motorcycles and bicycles? Transport #Canada has a survey you can fill out --whether you're a driver, cyclist, motorcyclist or pedestrian. Your chance to say what you think about these very bright, modern car headlights.
    - The survey didn't address the lights on bicycles, but yes, they can be blinding to car drivers too.
Turns out there's a petition too. Link in next comment below.

  18. If anyone knows what happened here I'd love to know.

Speculation is that she lost control on wet tram tracks.

"A woman has died after falling from her bicycle in Brunswick last month.
Emergency services responded to reports the cyclist had lost control and crashed on Sydney Road about 4.15pm on 24 February.
The 44-year-old Brunswick West woman was transported to hospital where she died on 28 February.
The investigation into the circumstances of the crash is ongoing."

  24. The Upfield bike path is going to be closed for at least a year between 2028 and 2030 while they do the Brunswick level crossings removals on the Upfield Train Line.

This means detouring the > 2500 people that use this path everyday down some side streets.

The more direct alternative is Sydney Rd which is 40km/h but a very busy shopping street, tram route and extension of the Hume Hwy (for people avoiding paying the toll on Citylink).

Sydney Rd has no cycling infrastructure.

The winding detour that has been detailed in the "Summary of Transport Provisions" document for the level crossing removal project goes down a bunch of relatively quiet side streets.

There is also some very...uhh...optimistic sections on busy 60km/h Brunswick Rd without any bicycle infrastructure and a few sections where riders will need to be be filtering in a narrow section between parked cars and cars waiting at the level crossing.

Just these sections make this detour high enough stress to put off a whole bunch of riders. This detour is not appropriate for children.

The detour is estimated to add 1km to the trip and 5mins. But that feels like a significant underestimate as many of the busy road crossings are awkward, have no infrastructure and will be more awkward with that many other cyclists adding extra time.

  27. Breakfast time. Opted for #Starbucks instead of my usual healthy Sunday #breakfast at Kenny's. Don't judge me. I'm collecting e-stickers. I want the mug. 🤪! #holiday

As I was parking my #bike next to the door, the security guard walked over from the far end of the parking lot. "Dining in, ma'm?" I thought he'd tell me not to park there. Then he opened the door for me and commented on my bike. He was just curious. 😅! #CityRide #bikeCommute #bicycles

  28. Bike Route Buddy tangling with a dickhead in a wanktank in Geelong that doesn't know the 2nd basic rule of driving.
(the first basic rule is 'don't run in to people in front of you', the second is 'give way when turning')
