Oh, hello old friend.
This was my first Mac computer, given to me by a friend in the early 2000s. At some point I stripped the paint of the front and exposed the raw titanium. I may have also slid a green filter between the backlight and Apple logo. I replaced at least one hinge.
Later it was relegated to running a max/MSP patch that was controlling a lighting installation I did in a very long hallway in my first NYC apartment.

Well I didn’t end up schlepping to the VCF east swap meet, but I made up for it by grabbing this G4 iMac nearby for $50. Got it from the original owner, and it fired right up.
I spent WAY too long cleaning up the keyboard, but it turned out great.

Bought an #SSD Upgrade to the #Powerbook G4 12" 1.5GHz

- Transcend MSA230 128GB mSATA SSDOpening up this computer takes some commitment. And while I was in there I also lubricated the CPU fan to fix some noise. Then booted the computer from an external #Firewire disk and restored the #Sorbert Leopard image.

Today I did something fun!
On my left is my dear old 1GHz #Powerbook #G4. The best machine i've ever owned. But it's been around and seen better days.
Bought an upgrade: 1.5GHz, 1.25GB of RAM and 2x the VRAM.
Though just a CD-RW instead of a my broken DVD Burner. And the display is so much brighter, and the keys feels brand new!Ordered an #msata to de adapter and disk just in case, but don't know if i want to use it.

Over on my blog, @vextaur I've done MLP story reviews, and lets try one here and see if'n Markdown can make it look good. For today, we're doing two stories we don't like, because it makes little point only being a cheerleader, right?
First off, The White-Tail Affair.

Honestly I hate to dislike this one, because the supporting cast is actually interesting and fun, Blueblood is… Odd, and I'm curious what's going on with him. Raven, even weirder, and Goody Two-Shoes the pegasus lawyer is fun… Unfortunately our main character Eterna Blossom is just a train wreck that drags the story down which really sucks with so many interesting and/or good characters running around.
What's the story about?
Well so far a diplomatic mission with the deer that live near the Everfree. So far because we've had a glimpse of a future where they're studying what went wrong I think, plus there's plenty of references to Eterna's family history which is tied to Nightmare Moon and the Everfree Forest. Seriously, I find myself being pretty sure there's a lot going on that I have figured out yet, but that's not a bad thing. Really its a shame about this one.So what's the second one?

This is another potential squandered by a basically unlikable lead. Seriously, we have a person who's pulled into Friendship is Magic (My Little Pony generation 4) from the 80's via magic. Suspending disbelief that Twilight could do this without Celestia noticing, this is an interesting idea because typically human in Equestria stories are just that, or the human died and is reborn and is familiar with G4, but here the character is only vaguely aware of My Little Pony and that would be the first cartoon version, along with being converted into a pony when he was pulled in. Problem is that Andy isn't very likeable, survivor of an abusive childhood that ran off to CA to become a rock star, alcoholic and a drug user. This character sabotages himself at every opportunity, and while I'm glad there's no miracle cures in this Equestria, there doesn't seem to be any cures or help available. Because of this, things never really move forward, 7 chapters in, and really nothing has changed, things have happened, but nothing has really changed.Seriously, the fact that I gave up on both of these is telling, I can put up with characters, settings or versions of Equestria that aren't entirely likeable, I mean I'm still reading Ascension, Abdication or Abduction, a story that I can say has its moments, the good parts out number the bad, but it definitely has issues.
Both of these though?
Yeah, definitely thumbs down, don't waste your time.

All G2 networks in SR SA have been shutdown till further notice
That means for ever.
Apart from the fact that I cannot choose this gorgeous G2 phone anymore, to play music on the road, BT, I will not be able to wonder how much technology was put in such a small phone
This is not Nostalgia because there's a lot of those phones that I used and they all need to be quote unquote smartphones now -

Reached out to Brock over at @everymac with a bit of a mystery. I purchased a G4 iMac back in '22 at the VCFMW. However, the model # seems to be fairly unique. It's an M6498 which is correct, but it's an EMC 1987 which Googling doesn't seem to pull back much. Plus it came standard with 512MB of RAM which was also not standard. I'm guessing a BTO, but maybe the fediverse has more insight? #mac #g4 #imac #apple

Why would a computer (specifically a #G4 tower) power off when a DVD is put in the drive? I'm trying to figure out what's happening to the power supply in this situation that's causing the behaviour, because it's probably a pretty good clue as to what I did wrong when I rewired it that's also causing it to turn off after running for 15-20 min.
And it's not the drive itself. I swapped in another one just to eliminate that variable. I'm fairly certain it's something wrong with the way I rewired the ATX power supply to adapt it to Apple's weird non-standard pinout.
