Seriously, what’s going on at #Shimano? This is the second GRX x11 rear derailleur shifting cable in our household that needed replacing in only three months. This one went bust after 2.5 years, the earlier one already after less than a year.

I’m starting to think that routing a cable through the brifter in two 90 degree bends might not be ideal for cable longevity.

There was also another problem today: My shoes. For many years I've favoured Shimano's SPD sandals. I wore them for LEJOG. They were supremely comfortable and let a bit of air around your toes when cycling. Excellent.

Unfortunately, my old pair broke a couple of days ago, which I only really noticed yesterday when I found that I couldn't unclip from the pedals on my racing bike.

What's happened is that the straps at the rear on the left shoe are no longer properly connected to the sole and this makes unclipping by turning your foot impossible. I nearly fell from my racing bike due to this (and I know now why I also nearly fell a couple of days ago).

Anyway, I thought I was covered as I had reserve pair of the newer style of the sandals which I got out to wear today. DISASTER. The new sandals have horrible bendy soles instead of the very stiff soles of the old style. This resulted in my having numb feet for most of today's ride.

I don't see myself being able to use these much at all. What a disappointment.

Anyway, after today's ride to Groningen and a short trip to get some shopping I now only have 64 km left to meet my target for the month, and two whole days left. Easy peasy.

The #gravel bike has been now fixed. The freehub has stopped freehubbing, so I’ve figured out it will be cheaper+easier tu just replace that wheel. Cheap one has been replaced by another cheap one… Can’t blame me with a price as low as €65.

I had to also replace the front tube…😔

Now… That must be the ugliest rim profile I’ve ever seen! Good job, #Shimano! And fuck you for the big ugly white stickers on black rim…🤌🏻😂

Du coup, hier j'ai profité du démontage de la roue arrière de mon vélo urbain pour faire un petit bain d'huile au moyeu.
Honte à moi : je ne l'avais encore jamais fait (bouuuuh), et finalement j'ai trouvé un bon tuto et ça se fait bien (bon, la petite bague élastique qui sert de circlips sans trou pour l'ouvrir est terriblement pénible à remettre, mais le reste ça va).

Where would I find engineering drawings (or better yet, a pre-modeled CAD file) for a Shimano Freehub body*? It seems like this sort of thing would be available (what do all the manufacturers who make parts that work with it do?), or even if it's locked behind Shimano licensing it seems like someone with a 3D printer or what not would have modeled this.

* Specifically an 11 speed 3-pawl system as used by some DTSwiss hubs, but there are a million of them, I know. Any might provide enough information for me to find others.

A freehub bearing failed on my trusty Cannondale M-700 '91 bike. Can't replace just the bearing because geniuses at #shimano made it impossible to replace just bearings. One has to replace the entire freehub. The problem? It isn't produced anymore nor available anywhere. #sustainability, eh. I'll bi probably forced to replace the entire rear wheel, otherwise functional.

BB-UN300 held up around 18 months on my commuter. Changing it is a little annoying, but is it really worth the effort going for a more premium part if a spare costs just 12€?

Practically speaking, premium square tapered BBs go fo 100-200€, and I don't think they will last 20-30 years... And then there's the risk of theft that someone has to be factored in.

@rower Mostek, który wymontowałem z nowego roweru, żeby założyć 2 centymetry krótszy i amortyzowany, wsadziłem dzisiaj do starej maszyny, bo w niej miałem dla mnie za długi.

Musiałem do tego dołożyć adapter pozwalający założyć mostek 1 1/4 na rurę 1 1/8, ale wszystko ładnie się zgrało. Dzięki skróceniu mostka mogłem cofnąć nieco siodło, które jakiś czas temu przesunąłem do przodu, żeby skrócić reach, a dzięki danym z bike-sizingu przed zakupem nowego roweru mogłem poprawić także wysokość siodła.

Po tym wszystkim wziąłem go na godzinne kręcenie i muszę powiedzieć, że siedzi się na nim wyraźnie lepiej.

Przy okazji odkryłem, że o ile przesiadając się na Canyona odczułem różnicę w komforcie, jaką dają nowe podzespoły, to jednak jak duża jest, uświadomiłem sobie dopiero dzisiaj, gdy złapałem po przerwie za twarde i chude chwyty Sora, z ich wąskimi dźwigniami, które tak daleko trzeba wychylać. Podobnie z hamulcami – czułem, że są dużo lepsze, ale rozmiar przepaści między nowymi a starymi uświadomiła mi dzisiejsza próba wyhamowania na dość stromym zjeździe.

I tak Ridley ciągle jest fajną maszyną i zostawiam go sobie do jeżdżenia, gdy pogoda będzie taka, że żal mi będzie wystawić z domu Canyona. Chociaż kusi mnie też, żeby na lato założyć mu slicki i czasem robić czysto asfaltowe trasy.

Gestern mal wieder was ganz besonderes in der #Fahrrad​werkstatt beim #Reparaturcafé gehabt:

Jemand hatte einen Kleinenanzeigenfund dabei mit einem #Shimano Schaltkraftverstärker.

Genauso hab ich auch geguckt. Das Ding macht das kraftaufwändige Front-Umwerfen zu einem butterweichen Fingertippen. Ganz mechanisch, die Kurbel macht die Hebelarbeit! Genial und ideal, weil er #Rheuma hat.

Nexave FD-C505 von ~2004, hat sich leider 0 durchgesetzt. Bisschen fummelig einzustellen, aber hat geklappt 👌

I’ve dusted off my trusty #RoadBicycle! I intend to ride it tomorrow for a change.

I’ve been looking to upgrade it, but apparently #SRAM doesn’t make AXS shifters for rim brakes anymore, what a bummer.

I’m now looking into the used parts market to get AXS shifters and rear and front derailleurs, but I have so many questions…

For starters - I can go with 12 speed casette, but will the famous front derailleur work on #Shimano crankset?🤡

Hat schon mal jemand die Lampen von #Lupine per #Bluetooth mit einer #Shimano #Di2 gekoppelt? Es wäre absolut genial, wenn man mit den freien Knöpfen das Fernlicht steuern könnte und ich mir die eher behelfsmäßig befestige separate Fernbedienung komplett sparen könnte 🤔

Oder auch die Steuerung des Smartphones per Bluetooth! Für iOS gibt es wohl schon eine extra App - die entwickeln aber scheinbar gleich ein ganzes Navi usw. von Grund auf neu, was ich gar nicht brauche. Ist irgendwo dokumentiert, welche Befehle die Di2 senden kann? Im Notfall könnte man die Befehle vermutlich per #Tasker abfangen. Basis-Funktionen wie Display ein-/ausschalten usw. würden schon völlig ausreichen, weil ich nach wie vor ohne Fahrradcomputer fahre.
