There is a spectrum of classic adventure types, from railroad-esque modules like 'G1-3: Against the Giants' to the prototypical sandbox adventure at the opposite end, 'B2: The Keep on the Borderlands'. Squarely in the middle is 'T1: The Village of Hommlet' containing elements of a small sandbox village and a slightly more scripted dungeon nearby.

@aburtch I would say #DungeonCrawlerCarl is great for anyone that grew up playing #WOW #Runsescape #DungeonsandDragons or RogueLike style games. I totally see why its hit or miss.

The books are generally about a guy that gets stuck into an alien show based on leveling up and maneuvering through set-piece dungeons meant to kill them. The fun is when the main character starts exploiting game mechanics to cause chaos and try to enact revenge on the alien hosts.

Its a goofy and fun light read.

Had the final player create their character for the Saturday group yesterday. This guy raises my hopes for the group. The Saturday group has 3 #5e players and they aren't dealing with #1e well. The new guy is all about AD&D 1e and embracing the weirdness as well as creating a character that can produce some drama. There is still one meeting with the group next month for everyone to finish up their secondary characters but I'm cautiously optimistic for the January start.
