On the morning of the tenth anniversary to September 11, we were scheduled to perform commedia dell'arte at a local Renaissance festival.

But we asked ourselves how to do comedy in a world like this?

The answer was simple. And it's something we still hold true to this day.

It's September 6 so you can Fight Procrastination Day with National Read a Book Day!

Are we immune from procrastinating? Nope. Despite presenting amazing commedia dell'arte (such as our encore performance one of our favorite plays, "The Hazards of Hunting Redcaps" at One World Day in Cleveland's Italian Cultural Garden last week) we often have to pull everything together (from writing the scenario to rehearsing to costumes and props) at the last minute... and yet we do and it's majestic!

But we also always encourage reading. Read books and never stop learning!

Happy Calendar Adjustment Day! Don't lose track of your time!

The Gregorian (or "New Style") Calendar was adopted in Italy during the early days of commedia dell'arte. But it wouldn't be until 1752 when the American colonies made the change and September 2 was followed by September 14. Legend speaks of "calendar riots" as angry mobs demanded "give us our 11 days back!" But while this is likely more myth than fact, the changing system definitely caused chaos in our 2023 "time travel" commedia farce "Difficulties in Dating" staged at Cleveland ConCoction, Confluence, Pennsic, Marcon, and over Zoom for Commedia Day!

Earlier this year we celebrated our 20th birthday! However, it was not until late August 2006 that we adopted our name The Confused Greenies and (with help from Prof. Denise Caterinacci) our intentionally badly translated into Italian name i Verdi Confusi!

Since we originally started on the campus of Case Western Reserve University, we named ourselves after the notoriously confused campus shuttle buses. Of course, this moniker wouldn't mean much away from CWRU which is why we go by the Italian (replicating historic troupes) when performing commedia dell'arte for medieval and Renaissance events. Later we would also add Players' Patchwork Theatre Company to help pull both names together and better project what we do!

So happy two decades of green confusion!
