Luddites were supposed to be villains, named for the fictional Ned Ludd.

They are represented as the selfish enemies of progress, just like people today who object to massive data centres. But they didn’t oppose progress, they just opposed the conditions under which they were to lose reasonably paid jobs, working from home, to the miserable wages and conditions of the “dark satanic mills” which would replace them.

One of their tactics was smashing power looms in protest.

Today, we are faced with the prospect of losing our jobs to computer software called LLMs or branded as AI™. And if not that, to soaring prices for electrical power and water and serious damage to the climate from increased CO₂ emissions.

We need to be modern-day Luddites and stop these, because our governments are in thrall to their owners and wannabe rulers.
