  1. New Blog: Mirrors: On Self-Image, Autism, Control and a Changing Body

This is a very personal post about my life-long struggle with my weight and my self-image, from the undiagnosed autistic kid with eating issues, to the perimenopausal woman I am now.

  4. Good news, my safe foods I’d been reacting to these last few weeks has gone back to lower reaction. It’s my last lot of antibiotics tomorrow, so looks like being ill made everything worse, which makes sense.

When I went to the drs last week, they were surprised I didn’t know I had strep throat. I said I’m just used to feeling really ill and being told it’s fibromyalgia, or just something I have to deal with, I hadn’t even gone about my sore throat snd earache 😂 This was a sympathetic locum, who said it shouldn’t be like this.

  5. I think it's time for a #reintroduction post. I've been on Mastodon since 2024 and hanging out at The Mended Drum for over a year, and I'm doing a bit of remodeling on my feed. I'd love to make some new friends, and I would also appreciate any hashtag recommendations to follow!

I'm a cis woman of the Oregon Trail Generation living in #Raleigh, #NC, US. Currently a freelance proofreader specializing in deposition transcripts. I'm (lazy) #plantbased, unattached, #nonreligious, sober-ish, and #childfree.

Likes: #reading, #concerts, #animals (especially #cats), #photography, glamping, dragons, spreadsheets, pockets, bubbles, word games/puzzles, #solarpunk, #sustainability, a little light yoga, and the Oxford comma.

Dislikes: patriarchy, bigotry, billionaires, cars, fossil fuels, ads, #misophonia, #perimenopause, summer, basketball (see: misophonia), cooking, running, clothes shopping, phone calls, and glitter.

I'll expound on some of my favorite authors, artists, genres, and titles in a thread.

  7. Across a woman’s life there are three major physiological transitions: puberty, pregnancy/childbirth, and menopause.
Medicine tends to treat them as separate stories. Lived experience often doesn’t.
This essay explores a single regulatory pattern that reappears across these stages — sometimes as overwhelm, sometimes as crisis, sometimes much later as muscle cramps or autonomic symptoms — not as pathology, but as boundary dynamics under changing conditions.
    It’s about recognition, not diagnosis.
    About regulation, not “coping better”.
And about why many women sense continuity where systems see fragments.
If this resonates — for you, your daughters, or your patients — you’re not imagining the pattern.

  11. CW: Women’s Health

Does anyone know where to start the journey of diagnosing #endometriosis, #pcos, or #perimenopause?

Because my body is doing some weird shit and I don’t know what to ask for at the doctor.

    TIA for any help! :neocat_heart:

    Moin!

  13. Between needing to eat enough #fibre, #protein and #calcium every day, plus ensure I get enough #phytoestrogens to not feel awful (thanks #perimenopause), doing enough weight bearing #exercise to maintain #muscle, do enough intense and moderate exercise for #heart health, and also needing to be in a #calorie deficit to get back on top of my weight before I go and cry at a GP and they just tell me to bugger off and lose some #weight, I really just want to stay in #bed instead.

  14. I learned yesterday that my issues with vertigo and tinnitus could be tied to menopause. I don't normally use this space this way but I remember when the internet was young and information was shared, so here we are. #perimenopause #talkaboutit

  16. First, ignore the wet spot on the dog blanket. That's Benson waiting to be fed.

Second, I have officially officially entered the Comfort Orthotic Shoe Phase of #MiddleAgedHotness.

    1. Dansko's pink/orange tennis sandal reminds me of the shoe my old amazing boss Laura would walk to work at the YW. (Watching her work her Board and mgmt team was an education. She was an Iron Maiden. I dug it.) I have officially become a Boss Lady, by that measure.

    2. And Birkenstock's sandal gives some nice support to the PlantationFascist in my right foot.

(That's what I'm calling plantar fasciitis -- because it's giving oppression and pain.)

    SIGH.

  17. ...This latest news cycle highlights both the need for menopause education to identify and treat symptoms, and the lack of funding to provide that - not just for the medical community, but for patients and menopausal people. There are a lot of inconsistencies 'out there' in menopause practice, and it's always been our aim to help you find the right path *for you*. We'll keep doing that for as long as you need us to 😊❤️

  18. ...If you're concerned about your prescription levels, please do contact the practice that prescribed those for you, and discuss with appropriately qualified healthcare professionals.

Please be aware that for *some* people, an over license prescription may be required, but that should be with properly informed patient consent, in line with BMS guidance.

  19. Over the weekend, you may have seen/become aware of an article regarding Newson Health and above license #oestrogen doses. If this applies to you, please don't panic!

Over the time we've been A Thing, we've advised those on over licensed doses to refer back to prescribers, and indeed have advised within BMS guidelines regarding oestrogen and #progestogen dosage. We will continue to do this, and at all times member safety is our priority... 1/n

  20. Hello everypeeps 🙂

Whilst the news today is very disappointing (see our earlier posts regarding UK government inaction), we can help if you're needing support and a helping hand through #perimenopause and #menopause.

We provide free support in our groups on FB and Peanut, and we'll soon be launching our very affordable 'extra support' group too 🙂

Follow the links in our bio to find out more, and see how we can help you to kick menopause right in the foof 😁💗

  21. Hello 😊 We like a varied approach to the 'menopause toolkit', with/without HRT. One thing to add to yours might be yoga!

Here's a handy link to some poses that can help:

If you need something less advanced, our #yoga #menopause expert Dee has made some simple stretch videos & they're available to our FB group members. Come and find us this evening when we reopen after our weekend break ❤️

  22. Hello 😊 Something we notice in our support groups is that all of a sudden we'll have lots of questions about the same thing - at the moment it seems that hair loss is a widely shared concern for many...
