Poem: Exhausted

We are so stupid before You
Do You ever wonder what we're doing? 
Do You want to shake the globe
And see what settles down again
Instead of letting us crack the glass?
Is that why You stopped talking?
Because we kept writing the words down
Without looking up their meanings?

catch a smile on the air and
pin it to the shadowbox; find
something worth letting free and
keep it in a cage. the world is
cutting flowers from their stems
and putting them in water;

Τα τραγούδια των ανθρώπων
είναι πιο όμορφα από τους ίδιους
πιο βαριά από ελπίδα
πιο λυπημένα
πιο διαρκή.

Πιότερο απ’ τους ανθρώπους
τα τραγούδια τους αγάπησα.

Χωρίς ανθρώπους μπόρεσα να ζήσω,
όμως ποτέ χωρίς τραγούδια
μου ‘τυχε ν’ απιστήσω κάποτε
στην πολυαγαπημένη μου,
όμως ποτέ μου στο τραγούδι
που τραγούδησα για αυτήν
ούτε ποτέ και τα τραγούδια
μ’ απατήσανε.

Όποια κι αν είναι η γλώσσα τους
πάντοτε τα τραγούδια τα κατάλαβα.

Σ’αυτόν τον κόσμο τίποτα
απ’ όσα μπόρεσα να πιω
και να γευτώ
απ’ όσες χώρες γνώρισα
απ’ όσα μπόρεσα να αγγίξω
και να νιώσω
τίποτα, τίποτα
