  1. @plaguepoems

    from Violet Blue:

US cyclosporiasis: CDC, FDA, and many US states have stopped updating case counts because the cyclosporiasis “season” that the CDC defines ended August 31. Up to that date, states had reported 32,857 (CDC: 17,180) with CDC showing 990 hospitalizations. Texas and New York reported more cases this week. Like with Covid-19, cases continue while the federal government has declared it “over” and states cease surveillance; also just like Covid-19 in the US, officials released guidance that no one has to follow and casually mentions cyclospora in its list of produce hazards.

A gentle reminder that if you're able to, please wear a mask. It helps protect you and others, and is a great way to show community care.

I was only saying to someone yesterday that at one point very early on, the world had the chance to eliminate #SarsCOV2

We had an unprecedented global connection and we blew it.

Yes, you're so right, they just aren't quite the same and it's awful to see.

  20. Adults who reported having COVID-19 at least twice were significantly more likely to be diagnosed as having a new medical condition than those who reported never having been infected, according to a study published this week in Canada Communicable Disease Report.

It’s well known that preexisting conditions can increase the risk of severe COVID. The new research suggests that the relationship between COVID and chronic illness may run in both directions.

  25. Drove my friend who recently had rotator cuff surgery to her physical therapy appointment at Stanford Medicine Outpatient Center. Sign on the entrance door says "Please wear a mask."

How many people were masked? Me, in my N95. The physical therapist, in a basic blue mask. No one else that I saw.

  37. #COVID cases are now up to 23 per lakh population per day in #NYC, well below last fall's peak. ER visits for #COVID19 are now at half of one percent of all ER visits, a small percentage. And we still haven't seen a single COVID death since the beginning of May!

We are up to 53 #Flu and 25 #RSV cases citywide.

#COVIDIsNotOver and I'm hoping the cool weather will nip this wave in the bud. I still #WearAMask in pharmacies, doctors' offices, and in crowded trains, planes and buses!
