Ich war am Wochenende im Theater. Es war sehr schön. Diesmal hab ich daran gedacht, den Aranet CO2-Sensor nicht an der Garderobe abzugeben sondern in den Saal mitzunehmen.
Das Maximum zu Beginn der Vorstellung im Publikum waren 5.693 ppm. Der Wert war während meines gesamten Aufenthalts im Gebäude nie unter 2.800 ppm.
Das ist halt ein bisschen ungesund. Und auch schade, wenn sich das Publikum schlechter konzentrieren kann und immer wieder ein Gähnen unterdrücken muss.

For those of us still trying to avoid illness, I give high marks for the OHBM venue (Brisbane convention center): CO2 levels have stayed quite low in the auditorium, poster hall, and common areas. The symposium rooms were not as good; if more than a quarter or so full the CO2 increases rapidly. I also like that there are many easy-to-reach nice outdoor gathering places, and the opening night reception included a large patio.
None of that helps much when unmasked folks are talking loudly at close proximity, unfortunately, which happens a lot at posters, dinners, bars, etc. I'm not the only attendee masking (and no hassle about it), but we are in the distinct minority.
Mentions and black humor about covid and "colds" started at the opening ceremony and keep popping up; plenty of coughing and at least one person saying they were currently running a fever. It'd be interesting to track proportion coughing on the audio recordings over the conference and see if it actually increases or just seems to.
I haven't usually been the only person masking on trains, buses, or in shops around Brisbane, either, which is nice.

Neues vom #aranet4-Sensor in der Wiener U-Bahn: Erstaunlich niedrige CO2-Werte!
Ich bin gestern am späten Nachmittag und frühen Abend jeweils 17 Minuten zwischen zwei offenen Stationen mit der U6 gefahren. Ein Mal in der letzten Reihe neben der Fahrytür des Waggons gesessen, ein Mal in der vorletzten Reihe.
Gemessen wird automatisch alle 5 Minuten. Beim Hingehen/auf dem Bahnsteig 529 ppm, im Waggon dann 1045 und 1085 ppm, draußen wieder 561. Beim Event drinnen fast 2000, und auf dem Rückweg im Freien/beim Warten 539, in der U-Bahn 757, 778 und 721 (!). Draußen auf dem Heimweg runter auf 520.
Die Werte könnten in 17 Minuten auch deutlich weiter steigen; ich glaub schon, dass das so halbwegs stimmt. Ich hatte das Ding unlängst eine Nacht lang im Freien, und danach ist der Wert beim Reinholen binnen 15 Minuten um mehr als 1000 ppm gestiegen. Das müsste dann beim Einsteigen und Sitzen ja auch passieren.
Ich werde trotzdem in der U-Bahn mit Maske auftreten. Die Leute husten und niesen mir zu viel. :masto_lol: :masto_silly:

Ventilation in Via Rail's new Siemens Charger trainset, though better than before, still leaves room for improvement.
For business class from Ottawa to Toronto, carbon dioxide readings were typically below 700ppm. While from Kingston to Ottawa it hovered around 1200, increasing the chance of contacting airborne viruses. Two readings for economy class were around 1200 as well.
Compare to the #LRC car, which settled on ~2000ppm, even in Business class...

CW: Sampling air quality at a Seattle goth club
Update: I went to #TheMercury myself for Caturday this past weekend, and stayed until just after midnight with my #Aranet4 #CO2 monitor, which gave a fuller picture. The good news is that given the situation (a basement #seattle #seagoth #goth dance club), I’m still pretty impressed with the Mercury’s ventilation. However, it’s worth noting that as the night goes on, more people arrive, and as the dance floor gets more use, even great ventilation can only do so much.
Starting at about 10pm the readings went into the yellow, and at 11:30 they’d crept up into the red, peaking at 1790ppm at 12:10 am.
I’m still comfortable enough to go out from time to time (though may more regularly make midnight my “pumpkin hour”), but I’ll also definitely be continuing to stay masked while I’m there until community #Covid transmission levels drop down (if they ever do).
