  5. A single #mutation in dairy #cow-associated #H5N1 viruses increases #receptor #binding breadth, BioRxIV: biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/20

We found that H5 from A/Texas/37/2024, an isolate from the dairy cow #outbreak, has increased binding breadth to #glycans bearing terminal a2,3 sialic acids, the avian receptor, compared to historical and recent 2.3.4.4b H5N1 viruses. We did not observe any binding to a2,6 sialic acids, the receptor used by human seasonal influenza viruses.

  6. #Iraq - #Influenza A #H5N1 viruses of high pathogenicity (Inf. with) (non-poultry including wild birds) (2017-) - Immediate notification, #WOAH: wahis.woah.org/#/in-review/569

High mortality of #seagulls in #Dukan Lake.

  7. #Genetics of #H5N1 and #H5N8 High-Pathogenicity Avian #Influenza Viruses Isolated in #Japan in Winter 2021-2022 pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/385437

Results emphasize the complex of #dissemination and #reassortment events with the movement of migratory #birds, and the importance of continual monitoring of AIVs in Japan and #Siberia for early alerts to the intrusion of HPAIVs.

  8. Spatiotemporal #genotype #replacement of #H5N8 avian #influenza viruses contributed to #H5N1 emergence in 2021/2022 #panzootic pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/383582

Spatiotemporal gt replacement of H5N8 HPAI viruses contributed to emergence of H5N1 variant that caused the 2021/2022 panzootic, and viral evolution in poultry of #Egypt and surrounding area and autumn bird migration from the #Russia-Kazakhstan region to #Europe are important drivers of the emergence of the 2020-2022 H5 panzootic.
