The #ACLU filed an emergency petition in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia on Tuesday calling for Gyasi & her son to be released so they can seek #medical care.

“Ms. Gyasi secured the necessary visas for her son’s medical appointment, & by detaining them in dangerous conditions anyway, #CBP is breaking the #law & putting the #Trump administration’s cruel anti-immigrant agenda before basic human dignity & the #Constitution,” ACLU atty Dorna Maryam Movasseghi said.

#CBP is holding Gyasi & her son in a windowless holding room, acc/to the #ACLU. The pair’s attys allege that Gyasi & her son are being held in a work area converted into a cell with a single bed, a toilet & a sink.

Gyasi has been taken to a #hospital twice for #medical issues while in custody…. On Friday, Gyasi felt lightheaded & was examined at a local hospital, where medical staff expressed concern that she was not being fed enough[‼️], acc/to the court filing.

Hand therapy update:

Right hand has less than half the strength and mobility of my left hand. She said my strength level is lower than the ‘safe’ threshold.

She described it as ‘angry’ … that tracks.

TENS unit + exercise lessons then follow up when I can.

She also agreed with my neurologist - this is unfortunately surgical. 🫠 #health #medical #FuckRA

(Side note: This leaves me wondering if I have any sort of recourse/complaint credibility regarding my prior rheumatologist ignoring me EVERY time I complained of hand pain/weakness for over a year……)

@Mepurfield Except Canada likes to brag about how much better we have it. When media ignores daily financial struggles that many families, like our own, keep suffering while trying to survive.

I'd like it if media were more honest. I'd like more people outside of Canada to understand people have killed themselves here, multiple times, because they couldn't afford ongoing medical costs & were ignored by their government representatives. The government only covers monofocal intraocular lens - when my Mom requires advanced lenses. Government doesn't cover advanced cataracts lenses.
