  1. "Agreement to transition away from fossil fuels ‘not open for renegotiation’, Pacific leader tells pre-Cop"

I bet Mr 'Fossil-Fuels' Albanese wasn't happy with that..

"Speaking at a “saultalaga” – an exchange of views around a meeting table – at the end of a three-hour visit, a string of leaders argued the world must stand behind a 2023 agreement, made at a UN summit in Dubai, to transition away from fossil fuels. More recently it has faced wavering support, with pushback particularly led by oil-producing nations."

And Labor granting NSW's _BIGGEST_ fossil fuel project in history just this past week doesn't help matters..

There's only one party who aren't in the pocket of the fossil fuel industry, and - love them or hate them - the Greens are Australia's only real hope.

  2. "Mixed start for pre-Cop as just two non-Pacific leaders accept Australian invitation to climate summit"

"The Australian prime minister, Anthony Albanese, has declared it is “important that Pacific voices are heard” [while granting huge fossil fuel projects in NSW] after landing in Fiji on Monday to attend his first UN climate summit since becoming prime minister more than four years ago."

What an absolute sham of a politician Albo is. #LaborHasToGO

  3. Australia and Turkey criticised for hosting UN climate conference while embracing coal

"The hosts of the next major United Nation climate conference, Turkey and Australia, are facing criticism for being partners in a coal supply chain while remaining near silent on the need for a global deal to rapidly get off fossil fuels.

With the Cop31 summit in the Turkish Mediterranean city of Antalya just a month away, the two countries running the fortnight-long talks have been accused by activists of a “vacuum of action” on plans for a transition away from coal, gas and oil – a key goal of many nations at the talks.

The meeting is being held just days after a New South Wales regulator approved the largest coalmine expansion in the Australian state’s history. Joint owners Yancoal and Glencore estimate the 19-year life extension for the Hunter Valley Operations thermal coalmine could lead to 809m tonnes of heat-trapping carbon dioxide emissions if it wins federal approval.

A report, by campaign group 350.org, cited UN Comtrade data suggesting the supply of coking and thermal coal from Australia to Turkey had been responsible for more than 75m tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions since the signing of the landmark Paris climate agreement in 2015. It said the countries were now expanding their trade in liquified natural gas (LNG)."

  4. Palestinian children released from Israeli detention emerge ‘destroyed’

"Ayed Abu Eqtaish, the director of the SEYAJ Organization for Child Protection, says psychological “resources are very limited” for Palestinian children arrested by the Israeli military.

More than 350 Palestinian minors are held in Israeli detention centres or military prisons. About half are arrested without charge.

“It’s a terrifying experience to be arrested, interrogated and ill-treated and incarcerated inside Israeli prisons,” Eqtaish told Al Jazeera. “So almost every child who is arrested by the Israeli military will be psychologically affected.”

The “needs are huge,” he said, but the “resources are very limited”.

Eqtaish said the treatment of Palestinians in Israeli prisons has significantly worsened since October 2023, with children released from detention coming out “destroyed”.

He cited a fellow psychologist who had said that “before October 2023, our role was to let children step on the ground”, but now, “our role is to extract them from beneath the ground”.

“I believe that every child is in need for psychological support, but there is no programme in order to meet these needs,” he added."

If the israelis have been caught torturing and raping adult detainees (documented on various news sites) one can only imagine what they're doing to these poor kids! 😡

  5. Israel election double standard: Arab leader forced out, far right cleared

"A prominent Palestinian Israeli politician has been forced to withdraw from the upcoming elections over his remarks about the Gaza war, while Israeli far-right leaders have remained untouched despite their incendiary rhetoric and calls for violence against Palestinians.

The Israeli political institutions, including the electoral body, have been accused of double standards for targeting Palestinian politicians and parties in Israel.

Experts and critics, including Palestinian rights groups, have accused electoral system staff of applying a double standard in which Arab candidates have faced attempts to remove them from the ballot, while far-right Israeli politicians accused of repeatedly inciting violence against Palestinians have been allowed to run."
