I need the help of the Fediverse! We have two old camcorders that have been sitting around for ages and I am trying to resurrect them.
One is a Canon, it works great but the tape mechanism doesn't fully open, it raises up but the second part doesn't move out to allow tape entry.
The second, a Sanyo, works but just shuts down after around 5 seconds.
Both are powered off the mains using their factory chargers so it's not a battery issue.
Anyone with any ideas?

These were the last two photos I took with my Panasonic SDR-H85 camcorder. I was really bummed out as it broke at the start of my trip and I still have no clue what caused it to die. Still pretty sad about it. Does anyone have an Idea what might've caused it to die? I'm pretty certain the blurry picture was taken whilst it was dying and the other picture was after I couldn't see anything on my screen anymore. The Completely black picture was taken the same day to try and see if, after exporting media, it still worked. Clearly not as there is nothing on there

I was taking photos but suddenly my screen started losing colour and fading away. For a while it still started up but nothing was visible on the display and after a couple of days it didn't want to turn on anymore.A boost would be appreciated if it can help my post appear in communities which might know the answer.

I took off one side to see whether the blown capacitor would be accessible. It is not, at least not without a nearly complete disassembly.
My relative says it should go to someone who would want it. No charge, and I can meet you in the greater #Boston area. If you've been looking for a retro #camcorder, and don't mind doing the repairs, it's yours.

This #Canon #MVX300 #miniDV #camcorder is quite something. It feels more modern than the old broken #JVC one we had, but that one had more features (like a builtin light!). Sadly it doesn't have a microphone input. It does however advertise to have "megapixels" 😄. Which is actually about 1.3MP haha. A 16MB SD card was included for photo's. It can even record a ten second clip in 320x240 to the SD card, or 160x120 even!
No clue why they would include that though.

The real life people I care about I contact directly.
I installed it for FB Marketplace seeking a cheap #camcorder.
It wants access to every aspect of my phone, and I swear I had to deny access to my contacts about 3 times, then get asked "are you sure?".
Yes, I'll never use FB again.

Well I took my chances and.. they paid off! The seller didn't know if it worked, but all I had to do is plug it into a wall to find out 👀
This is a National (Panasonic) NV-MC5A, I believe sold in the late 80s?
I've yet to actually see if it can record or playback because I don't have any VHS-C tapes, but I should be getting some soon :> (and third party replacement batteries)

Last week I received this analog camcorder as a gift. Today's evening I brought the pretty, 30 years old lady (built 02/95) back to life:
The camera has only been used a few times over the years and I didn't even have to clean the head drum. I just regenerated the grease of the capstan bearing and adjusted the tape transport a bit.Now I just have to dust it off a bit, then it'll actually be like new again. I'm looking forward to using the camera extensively at the harbor in spring and summer... 🤩😍

Any recommendations for a consumer-grade-high-end #videography #camcorder ? I bought a Sony FDRAX53/B 4K HD Video Recording Camcorder years ago and it works okay but I want something truly hd (comparing my video to other livestreamers, theirs is definitely crisper, despite the camera claiming to be HD). I also have an ooooooold DSLR that I've never been able to use long for video, because it has this lovely habit of turning itself off after 30 minutes of recording, and I've never figured out how to disable that (the best theory I've been able to come up with is that it's overheating).
Even if I'll never be as famous as the "career content creators/influencers," I wanna at least approach their level of quality, and since I have my dead dad's life insurance, I might as well invest a couple thousand in a high quality camera that will last me a long time 🙃

Got a new charger for this old Hi8 #camcorder I've had since I was a teenager, I really doubt the battery will still hold a charge but I'm gonna try it first before I look into getting a replacement battery too. With the adapter it will turn on however, which is promising. I've got 4 60 minute tapes and really want to record a bunch of random footage to make into a collage I edit the old way with a #VCR and blank #VHS tape.
