  11. 136 - Thunderbird

Can't do a collection of inactive X-Men without arguably the most famous one of all.

Somewhere along the way, I misplaced this card, so these images are from @tradingcarddb.

    #TradingCardADay #XMen #FUXM1 #InMemoriam #BrianStelfreeze

  12. 135 - Mastermind

One of the better trading card/static image depictions of Mastermind's powers.

The power description is reaching a bit; he technically doesn't go into people's minds - he needed help to do that w/Phoenix

    #TradingCardADay #XMen #FUXM1 #InMemoriam #JamesSullivan

  13. 134 - Dark Phoenix

Can't do a "dead X-Men" subset without Dark Phoenix!

The description of her powers on the cardback seems to have forgotten Phoenix was also telepathic.

    #TradingCardADay #XMen #FUXM1 #InMemoriam #RayLago

  14. 133 - Mimic

As someone with a lot of fondness for the (not very good) 60s X-Men stories, I appreciate Mimic getting a card (presumably due to his imminent return as part of the Onslaught build-up).

  15. 132 - Mesmero

Having a new villain kill an old one to establish their bonafides is an old trick, but it must sting to be offed to make the Dark Riders cool - especially when their best days were already behind them.

    #TradingCardADay #XMen #FUXM1 #InMemoriam #FrankCirroco

  16. 131 - Sebastian Shaw

One of the fun things about these In Memoriam cards in hindsight is knowing how soon after the cards came out the dead characters would return - Shaw'll be back within a year.

    #TradingCardADay #XMen #FUXM1 #InMemoriam #MarkChiarello

  17. 130 - Goblin Queen

Not the best depiction of Maddie, but not terrible. I don't recall her being "officially" more powerful than Jean, though. I guess maybe on the grounds she was telepathic at a time Jean wasn't?

    #TradingCardADay #XMen #FUXM1 #InMemoriam #GlennFabry

  18. 128 - Warlock

What a great card. To have Sienkiewicz working on this set and NOT have him do the Warlock card would have been a crime.

    #TradingCardADay #XMen #FUXM1 #InMemoriam #BillSienkiewicz

  19. 127 - Magik

New category: Deceased (I'm tagging it as #InMemoriam). It's mostly New Mutants & villains.

I appreciate the cardback text saying "reverted" and not the redundant "reverted back", one of my biggest grammatical pet peeves.

  20. This grief washed the Fake Mask away instantly. This is the moment of coherence.

She saw herself clearly: pure, loving light. She remembered her true name, Cristina (Consciousness, the Christ-Light).

She realized the journey was not about suffering, but about using the intense energy of grief to move beyond low-level fear (Force) and step into the high energy of love and power.

The Moral of the Story: Coherence

The purpose of the painful journey is the realization. Your ability to give peace to another life proves your loving nature.

Your tears are the bridge. In your healing, you become the light that helps others remember their own true name.

We are all one, and your remembrance is the key to uplift the world.

  21. RIP Miss Major Griffin-Gracy. The legendary trans activist died on Oct. 13, surrounded by her loved ones, according to an announcement from her nonprofit, The House of gg. Here's @19thnews's tribute to her. “When younger people call me mother, or grandmother, I feel as though it’s an honor. To them, it’s like, ‘Here’s an older trans woman who survived, and who’s out there still raising hell,’" she told Toshio Meronek, who collaborated with her on her 2023 memoir. “When you are constantly under attack, especially if you’re in this community, you can’t just retire and walk off into the sunset. You’ve got to stay and teach young people to fight.”

  22. Dickey Betts, cofounder of the Allman Brothers Band, died last week. In this essay for Paste, Matt Mitchell remembers his work on "Eat a Peach" and "Brothers and Sisters." "I contend that, between February 1972 and August 1973, there was no greater rocker walking among us than Dickey Betts," Mitchell writes. "Most musicians would kill to write 'Blue Sky,' 'Jessica' and 'Ramblin’ Man' over the course of a long career; Betts did it in just 16 months’ time, a creative peak few musicians of his caliber, genre and longevity have ever paralleled."
