  2. Male koalas are bellowing like clockwork on the shortest day of the year (winter solstice) every year ( 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024) in the same spot in the Bellingen region. The usual breeding season for koalas is approximately August to February.

That means koalas are already on the move, crossing roads, clear-felled logging areas of Tuckers Nob State Forests and are forced to cross paths with fast cars and roaming dogs.

  3. It's spotted-tailed quoll breeding season. At this time of the year, the females get chonky necks and develop a pouch.

They only live for about three years, so it's good to see from recent trailcam pics that there are more babies on the way.

  4. It's breeding season so the large black and white birds have been chasing each other to establish a pecking order. It's amazing to watch a pure black bird chasing a pure white one.

They don't actually fight or even touch each other, just chase and shout a lot.

The final results are in, and the sequence is:

    1. Raven (black) chases goshawk (white).
    2. Goshawk chases currawong (black with a bit of white)
    3. Magpie hangs out in the paddock at the front of the property, away from the rest of them, catching insects.
