"Imagine a family that struggles to afford enough nutritious food for their children. Through the Green Youth Movement, they gain access to practical training, seedlings, and a local demonstration farm that teaches them how to grow diverse, healthy food on their own land. What begins as a garden leads to better nutrition, lower food costs, new income opportunities, and a healthier future for their children.

Mariinka is Pieter-Jan De Pue’s long-awaited second feature film, following his award-winning debut, The Land of the Enlightened. Filmed over a period of ten years on 16mm, Mariinka begins long before the world witnessed the large-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, after which the city was almost completely destroyed. Through letters, video calls, and charged silences, a poignant story unfolds about connection, national loyalty, and the fault lines where political conflicts tear even family ties apart.

With the screening of Mariinka, we raise money for the organization Protect Ukraine. 50% of the ticket proceeds will be donated to them. I had hoped this day could be a chance to give back even a small part of everything she has endured. Over the past months, she has faced not only war, fear, and repeated displacement, but also the heartbreaking pain of three miscarriages, leaving deep physical and emotional scars that she still carries every day. 💔🕊️

Since then, her smile has become so rare. The weight of grief, trauma, and ongoing hardship has taken so much from her, and every day is simply another fight to keep going. 🥀

If ceasefire commitments are applied selectively, how can we believe that justice is not being used as a cover while grave violations continue?
