“We are very serious about the risks for the Amazon if #Flávio wins the election, because he is a climate denier,” said Carlos Nobre, a climate scientist currently at the University of São Paulo’s Institute for Advanced Studies. 'If this candidate is elected, certainly deforestation in the Amazon will increase. We are in a very serious situation.'

"Taken at face value, #Bolsonaro and #Lula would appear to have similar rainforest policies. Lula promises net-zero deforestation by 2030; #Bolsonaro promises zero illegal deforestation by 2029. Legal is the operative term. [#Trump ally] Bolsonaro’s platform argues for an 'agile, modern' environmental licensing process that 'will no longer serve as a way to block those seeking to invest and create jobs.'

'On the other hand, profiles acting as political operatives for the opposing side ... receive a disproportionate and artificial reach, garnering more views even than global celebrities.'

"Lula’s campaign wants Brazil’s top electoral court to order an immediate end to the content restrictions and pressure Meta to make up for the lost traction by doubling its reach to rectify the harm inflicted.

"On Oct. 11, as Lula’s voters started complaining about their use of Meta tools, the big tech company told the electoral court it rejects accusations of being skewed to Bolsonaro. The company admitted it has faced technical glitches that affect accounts beyond Brazil.
