  1. Hi everyone, it is a high time to rear the poultry birds together and use this project as a living laboratory to train young people about sustainable agriculture and environmental conservation.
Poultry farming combined with plant science, equips young people with every required knowledge for self-reliance.
More birds are needed to make this project more sounding

  10. Hi #mastodon, I want to update on our poultry project that we have been working upon these days.
While we have a will to rear more than 100 layers, we are just having 5 of them and this does not keep us not motivated, instead it is a gradual starting.
We want to make this poultry project to also empower young people with rearing skills and agribusiness to improve their lives through agriculture.

  14. Commercial fishers frustrated with delays to compensation
By Joanna Prendergast and Chris Lewis

Nine months after their fishery was closed due to sustainability concerns, some commercial demersal fishers are still waiting for compensation payments from the WA government.

  15. '[C]ontrasting today’s deepening dependence and the loss of heirloom varieties against the region’s storied past, said to be the birthplace of #agriculture itself, feels like rubbing salt in the wound. “Lebanon’s millennia-old agricultural heritage—one of the oldest in the world—is under imminent threat,” Salloum told me.'

South Africa’s agricultural sector is deeply integrated into global markets, supplying supermarkets worldwide with products such as table grapes and wine. Yet many (women) farm workers and farm dwellers behind these exports face precarious working and living conditions. On many farms, ownership and power remain concentrated among white farm owners, and everyday relations are still characterised by reflect inequalities rooted in apartheid.

This online event explores the realities of life and work on South African farms. We will discuss power dynamics in the agricultural sector, the role of agribusiness, housing and living conditions, gendered experiences of farm labour, and how women workers navigate growing precarity. The conversation also highlights how farm workers and dwellers organize, resist, and raise their voices, while inviting reflection on the global food system and ongoing struggles for dignity, labour rights, and justice on farms.

*Carmen Louw* is the Women on Farms Project Co-Director and *Stephmarie Pekeur* is a Seasonal Farm Worker.

We are looking forward to share this space with agricultural practitioners, food rights activists and friends from the food sovereignty movements. You are warmly invited to join us and are welcome to share the invitation with your networks!
